Actress and Scientologist Elisabeth Moss' father, Ron Moss, has passed away at the age of 79. The news of his death was revealed by his grandson Max, who is also the executor of his estate.
Ron reportedly passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loved ones. Like his daughter, Elisabeth, the professional musician was also a Scientologist and had a close relationship with the father of the organization's leader, David Miscavige.
Ron Moss' Cause of Death Revealed
According to his grandson, Moss passed away in Clearwater, Florida, on Thursday night. A statement by the family reveals that he died after a "brief battle with an infection." The 79-year-old was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his demise.
The statement from Ron's grandson read, "Ron made so many friends throughout his rich life, and we want everyone to know that you all meant so much to him. Thank you for everything that any of you did for him throughout his life."
Ron was a skilled trombone player who performed professionally for most of his life. The professional musician, who was a known Scientologist, allegedly performed with the father of Miscavige, the leader of his church.
Ron managed a number of well-known performers, including Isaac Hayes and Chick Corea. The latter is reportedly the godfather of his daughter, Elisabeth.
Although Ron was born and raised in Birmingham, England, he and his ex-wife, Linda, brought up the "The Handmaid's Tale" star and her brother Derek in the United States, specifically in Los Angeles.
The actress has yet to speak on the death of her father.
Rest in peace.
Elisabeth Moss Says Scientology Is 'Not Really A Closed-Off Religion'
Though Moss, like her late father, has belonged to the Church Of Scientology for decades, she seldom speaks about her association with the organization.
However, during a 2022 interview with The New Yorker, Moss opened up about the church. The actress initially noted that she didn't want to "come off as being cagey" while speaking about the subject.
She said, "If you and I met, just hanging out as friends, I'm, like, an open book about it. [But] I don't want people to be distracted by something when they're watching me. I want them to see the character. I feel like, when actors reveal too much of their lives, I'm sometimes watching something and I'm going, 'Oh, I know that she just broke up with that person,' or, 'I know that she loves to do hot yoga,' or whatever it is."
When the interviewer highlighted that some of her fans didn't agree with her religious preferences, Moss interjected that she couldn't control the way other people feel, adding that "if it's not that, it'll be something else."
She also stated that even though it was a vague concept, it wasn't a "closed-off religion." The actress added: "It's a very open place to, like, welcome in somebody who wants to learn more about it. I think that's the thing that is probably the most misunderstood."
