Sophie Turner and her ex-husband, Joe Jonas, appear to have resolved custody matters, prompting Turner to request the dismissal of her "child abduction" claim from 2023.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the former lovebirds are urging the judge in their federal case in New York, initially filed by Turner in September, to dismiss the entire action.
Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas Have Made Headway In Co-Parenting EffortsÂ
On Tuesday, January 16, Turner filed a "court order of dismissal without fees," essentially indicating mutual agreement with her to dismiss the "child abduction" case, primarily based on the custody arrangements settled in United Kingdom courts.
Citing a parenting plan that she and the Jonas Brothers member agreed upon in October, the filing reads:
"Whereas, on October 8, 2023, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding and a Parenting Plan, inter alia, relating to all matters concerning the parties' two minor children, WRJ and DMJ."
The yet-to-be-signed document claims that since both parties indicated their consent through their lawyers' signatures, the case should be dismissed "with prejudice, and without attorneys' fees, expenses, costs and/or disbursements awarded to either party."
By asking for the case to be thrown out with prejudice, Turner has lost the right to reclaim the same claim again in the court where it was originally filed.
Even though an official judicial approval is pending, the issue is practically resolved — a significant development given the initial drama when Turner first sought court action under child abduction law.
When she invoked the statute last year, the mother of two alleged that Jonas was withholding their children's passports and preventing them from traveling to see her. The move soon escalated the issue to a federal level, catching the attention of the U.S. authorities.
Additionally, Turner asserted that, as a family, they had decided England would be their permanent home. However, due to the "Leave Before You Love Me" hitmaker reportedly keeping the kids in New York amid their recent divorce filing, she claimed his actions violated international child abduction laws.
Since then, the ex-couple have found common ground, temporarily resolving custody arrangements amid their ongoing divorce.
Jonas And Turner Previously Opted For Private Custody Mediation
After making headlines for reaching a temporary child custody agreement in New York in October, recently obtained court documents by The Blast disclosed that the duo were planning for private mediation.
Amid the legal battles happening in Florida, Miami, and the U.K, they agreed to dismiss the Miami case, leaving the option to reactivate it in the future if necessary.
In their filing, Jonas and Turner committed to resolving all other matters through private mediation instead of pursuing them in court. With this approach, they aim to keep details confidential, as court battles typically make documents and information public.
Looking forward, they also expressed a dedication to reach "an amicable resolution" of all issues. As part of this agreement, Jonas was expected to file a notice of dismissal for parenting-related claims.
The couple was then scheduled to return to New York City on January 2 to finalize their custody arrangement after agreeing to a temporary holiday plan. According to the latest interim consent order, Turner had custody of their two daughters, Willa and Delphine, from October 9 through October 21.
During Turner's time with the girls, she was given the flexibility to bring them to her home in the U.K. or any other location within the U.S. or the U.K. However, it was stipulated that both girls must return to NYC by October 21. On that date, custody was transferred to Jonas, who had the children from October 21 through November 2.
While the girls were in his custody, Jonas took them trick-or-treating with them, donning a Prince Charming costume. He was spotted pushing three-year-old Willa and her one-year-old sister through the West Village in a princess-themed carriage.
Just like Turner, Jonas was permitted to bring them along with him throughout the U.S, including to his tour, with scheduled performances in Austin, Texas, San Diego, California, and Anaheim, California, during the period when he had custody.
