TikTok Divided on Gypsy Rose Blanchard: Manipulation or Redemption?
By Melanie VanDerveer on January 16, 2024 at 6:15 PM EST
A debate about Gypsy Rose Blanchard is going strong on TikTok with the app divided.
While many feel she's a victim who deserves compassion and empathy, others say they are tired of her lies and manipulations and everyone putting her on a pedestal.
TikTokers Debate The Topic Of Gypsy Rose
Since Blanchard was released from prison after serving eight years for her part in her mother's murder, the world has been divided. Most can agree that she was absolutely a victim, but then there are some who argue that she's also a liar and a "master manipulator" and they are calling her out for many different reasons.
There is no lack of TikTok content about Blanchard, but recently there seems to be more content sharing one particular side of the argument.
"I call bull---- on everything Gypsy Rose Blanchard has said. I have literally spent the last three days watching every single interview, every single documentary, every single everything that I can about this woman, and she has manipulated the entire world," a TikToker who goes by Kimbers Toolbox started her video.
"She has manipulated the entire world to celebrate her, which is f------ insane."
This TikToker talked about Nicholas Godejohn, the boyfriend who killed her mom, and why she feels he was manipulated by Blanchard.
"He is very, very slow. He doesn't seem like he makes decisions very well," she said. "Where she talked about how she was the one purchasing his bus tickets, she was the one who purchased the knife, she was the one who did all of these things but then proceeds to say that he manipulated her."
She continued to say it makes no sense to her as Blanchard is out of jail living her life and being celebrated, and Godejohn is in jail for life.
She did reiterate that yes, Blanchard is a victim, but said "most victims don't go around unaliving people."
"I think Nicholas Godejohn is just as much of a victim of Gypsy Rose as Gypsy was with her mom," she continued. "He was Gypsy's victim."
Many viewers took to the comments to agree with her view.
"Nick is the scapegoat!!! His story stays the same with every interview, but Gypsy’s story changes," one person wrote. Another added a similar thought saying, "I’m 100% with you on ALL of it!!! I’m just glad finally someone is willing to say it out loud!!!"
Some other people didn't feel the same way.
"Y'all Stop worrying about gypsy. She was traumatized. She didn't do it to any of your mom, so move on," one person wrote. "Leave Gypsy alone. How many murderers are out on the street right now who didn’t have a reason to kill," wrote another.
Another TikToker Asked Everyone To Stop Hyping Her Up: "From Victim To Villain"
Another TikToker explained why the world needs to stop talking about Blanchard and stop hyping her up.
"She is just like her mother. Watch out folks," TikToker who goes by Murder Honey said. "This girl is on a mission to achieve fame post-prison."
She continued her video explaining that Blanchard has "hit the ground running" and shouldn't be turned into a "celebrity."
"This 32-year-old has been turning heads. She's getting blue checks verified on social media platforms, making appearances on media circuits, and rubbing shoulders at fancy events alongside her husband whom she tied the knot behind bars," she continued. "Talk about turning a new leaf."
When asked why she's out of jail already and her boyfriend is still in jail, the TikToker said, "She learned most of it from her mom."
"She manipulated Nick to do all her dirty work," she said. "She picked someone with a learning disability, with a low IQ. She told him he was the love of her life, lying to him, and she convinced him to off her mother. Gypsy is a criminal. Yes, she was abused, but she's still a criminal."
Murder Honey's video received more than 2.6 million views and thousands upon thousands of comments.
One viewer wrote, "I agree with you 1,000,000% on this one," while another said, "Woman you’re the one who needs true help, LEAAVE gypsy alone mind ya business."
Many argued that it was Blanchard's only way out, and others agreed with the TikTok creator's thoughts 100 percent.
"Girl you clearly don’t know up from down. Gypsy was a victim of extreme child abuse. How dare you sit here and say those things about her," wrote one person. Another added, "Girl, preach! I agree."
