Melissa Barrera & Jenna Ortega Meet With 'Scream' Cast After Exiting Franchise

Despite exiting the 'Scream' franchise, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega reassembled with the 'Core 4' from the movie, which consists of Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding.
As previously reported, Melissa Barrera was fired from 'Scream VII' for her stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Shortly thereafter, Jenna Ortega announced her departure due to a filming conflict with 'Wednesday' season 2.
Although the actresses will not reprise their roles in the horror movie franchise, they are still seemingly friends with their former cast mates, even meeting up with a few of them at MPTF’s 17th Annual Evening Before Gala.
Last year, the franchise announced that Melissa Barrera, who portrays one of the main characters, Samantha Carpenter, in the newest 'Scream' films, would not return for the upcoming movie due to her stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
For those who are unaware, Barrera made a post on her Instagram Stories to speak about her belief on the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
“Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp. Cornering everyone together, with nowhere to go, no electricity no water … People have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”
Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera Meet Up With 'Scream' OG Skeet Ulrich
Although she was fired from the 'Scream' franchise, Melissa Barrera still met up with her on-screen sister, Jenna Ortega, and some of the other 'Scream' cast at MPTF’s 17th Annual Evening Before Gala on Sunday, January 14.

In addition to meeting up with Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, who portray siblings Mindy and Chad in the recent 'Scream' movies, Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera also met up with Liana Liberato (Quinn Bailey), Tony Revolori (Jason Carvey), Jack Quaid (Richie Kirsch), and Barrera’s on-screen father and original Ghostface actor, Skeet Ulrich.
'Scream VII' Director Comments On Melissa Barrera's Exit
Christopher Landon, the director of 'Scream VII', posted a statement on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, at the time of Melissa Barrera's firing, which read, “This is my statement: Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make.”
He later deleted the statement from social media.
Spyglass, the company behind the seventh 'Scream' movie, also issued a statement in regard to their decision to fire Melissa Barrera:
“We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
It remains to be seen where the franchise will go after losing its two starring actors and its director. It is possible that Neve Campbell might reprise her role in the iconic horror movie franchise after previously turning down an opportunity to appear due to a salary dispute.
