Following the backlash of Jo Koy's joke about Taylor Swiftduring the 2024 Golden Globes, Simu Liu is making a "personal guarantee" not to bash the pop icon during his hosting of the People's Choice Awards.
As you may know, Koy, who hosted the Golden Globes, made a joke about Taylor Swift and her relationship with the NFL, and the pop icon clearly did not find the jab funny as she was seen sipping her champagne with a 'blank face.'
“The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift,” the comedian said at the start of the big Hollywood event.
The joke has become a viral sensation, with many Swifties backing the 'Love Story' singer. Now, with the People's Choice Awards just around the corner, host and 'Barbie' actor Simu Liu is promising not to make any jokes about Taylor Swift.
Taylor Swift Won't Be The Subject Of Any People's Choice Awards Jokes
It was announced on Thursday that Simu Liu would be hosting the upcoming 2024 People's Choice Awards, which will air live next month.
“I’m so grateful to have been asked to step up to the hosting plate for the 2024 People’s Choice Awards,” Liu said in a statement after the news broke. “It’s exciting to celebrate this incredible year in pop culture, and to do so with the incredible fans that make what we do possible.”
And when it comes to his opener, Simu Liu promises there will be no 'bad blood' between him and Taylor Swift, as the actor said he won't take any jabs at the pop singer during the upcoming awards show.
“There will be no Taylor [Swift] slander at the 2024 PCAs,” the 34-year-old wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, adding, “That’s a personal guarantee.”
Following the backlash Jo Koy received for his opening monologue during the 2024 Golden Globes, the comedian addressed the Taylor Swift moment in particular, stating “I think it was when the Taylor one was just a little flat."
Adding, "It was a weird joke, I guess. It was more on the NFL. I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that. So it was more of a jab toward the NFL. But it just didn’t come out that way.”
More recently, the comedian told the Los Angeles Times, that “what hurts the most is me just supporting Taylor, I support her, I love her work. I got nieces that I bought tickets for. There’s no ill intent in that joke.”
