Is Emily Blunt joining the divorce club? The actress did nothing to dispel the speculations about her marriage to John Krasinski with her solo appearance at the 2024 Governors Awards.
The “Devil Wears Prada” star fueled the rumors about possible trouble in paradise by making a splash on the red carpet without her beau. Her latest outing comes at the heels of a now-viral video that got fans thinking the longtime couple were chatting about their separation.

She accessorized with additional silver bangles and drop earrings while rocking her honey-blonde hair in classy waves. Despite looking ravishing, her husband was nowhere in sight. In his place were his wife's “Oppenheimer” co-stars — Florence Pugh, Cillian Murphy, and Robert Downey Jr.
While it is common for movie co-stars to attend award events together instead of their significant partners, Blunt's solo appearance raised several eyebrows, given fans’ growing concerns about her marriage. The speculations began after a TikTok video captured the couple's conversation on the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet just days earlier.
The clip turned viewers into lip-reading detectives, trying to figure out what the couple discussed while posing for pictures. Although their conversation was inaudible over the background voices, many theorized Krasinski was discussing their divorce.
“Did he say I can’t wait to divorce? And she said hey, and he stated, I’m serious…” someone wondered. Another fan agreed, writing: “I’ve watched this 500 times trying to convince myself he said something other than divorce.”
“I swear he’s saying divorce, but I want him to be saying ‘get through this,’” a third wailed. However, a TikTok user noted the rumored divorce conversation might be a joke between the couple. The individual's comment read:
“Even if he did say that, maybe it was just a joke between them that went over all our heads, lol. Seems like the kind of joke he would make.”
Meanwhile, other lip-reading experts believed Krasinski was talking about the weather. “‘I can’t wait to get indoors’ it was really windy and cold,” someone noted. Another claimed the actor said: “‘I can't wait to get through this.’”
“You can hear her say, ‘It’s actually kinda chilly right now.’ And he responds, ‘I can’t wait to get indoors,’” a fellow lip reader observed. More positive fans avoided the divorce route, stating Krasinski could have been referring to the award show.
“I think he said I can't wait FOR THE AWARDS,” a fan declared, while another TikTok user pointed out: “I can't wait to be finished with this. I've listened to this so many times, volume up, eyes closed, and I think that's it.”
Inside Emily Blunt And John Krasinski's Iconic Relationship
Blunt and Krasinski are one of Hollywood’s most iconic couples with the sweetest love story. Before the duo met, “The Office” actor became his wife's biggest fan thanks to her 2006 hit movie, “The Devil Wears Prada.”
Two years after the movie premiered, Krasinski met Blunt through a mutual friend in Los Angeles. “It's kind of a sad, lame story. I was in a restaurant. He was in the restaurant. I was sitting with a mutual friend,” the actress recalled in a 2018 interview, per PEOPLE, adding:
“And my friend Gray goes, 'Oh my god, that's my friend John.' And that was it. He was sitting with our friend Justin Theroux, and he abandoned Justin and came over to us. He just stood there and made me laugh.”
In his recollection of their romance, Krasinski noted he wasn't looking for love but swiftly changed his mind after meeting Blunt. “Then I met her, and I was so nervous. I was like, ‘Oh god, I think I'm going to fall in love with her,’” he confessed, claiming their chemistry was undeniable.
The duo had their first date in late 2008 at Krasinski's apartment but refused to share a unique event that happened during the date. Thanks to this secret, the lovebirds were ready to walk down the aisle with the actor proposing in August 2009, and then they got married in July 2010.
In February 2014, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Hazel Grace, followed by their second daughter, Violet, in June 2016. The duo's life continued to blossom on and off the big screen, with them starring together in their first movie, “A Quiet Place.”
At the time, Krasinski was asked what it felt like working together with his wife, and the actor joked: “We could be announcing our divorce right now if it did go the wrong way.”
