At the 2024 Golden Globes, host Jo Koy's attempt to joke about the NFL's coverage of Taylor Swift fell flat, earning criticism online. Swift herself looked very unamused at the comedian's joke.
The singer has previously spoken about being conscious of paparazzi attention at NFL games, noting that she does know if she is "pissing off a few dads."
Taylor Swift Was Unamused At Jo Koy's 'Attempt' At A Joke At The Golden Globes
Popular stand-up comedian Jo Koy attempted a joke at Taylor Swift's expense while hosting Sunday's Golden Globe Awards, but unfortunately, the joke fell flat.
Comparing NFL airtime to the awards show following a commercial break post-football doubleheader, Koy quipped: "As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader. The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear."
Immediately after his joke, the camera cut to Swift to get her reaction but the “Out of the Woods” hitmaker remained stoic, taking a sip of her drink. As the joke fell flat with Swift and the audience, Koy apologized and swiftly moved on.
Swifties Slam Jo Koy For His Joke At The Golden Globes
Online reactions poured in after Koy's Golden Globes joke about Swift's camera time. One user criticized the awkward moment, noting, “That landed with a giant thud and a death glare from Swift. Not Jo Koy's best moment.”
Another speculated on Koy's preparation, stating, “Didn’t he run this joke with his people before doing it on stage? If he did, he needs to fire them ASAP.”
A third user questioned Hollywood's sentiments toward Koy, saying, “I don't care for Jo Koy one way or the other, but the reactions makes me feel like I'm missing something: does all of Hollywood already hate this guy for some reason(s)?”

One Swift fan defended her, saying, “The joke wasn’t funny, and I’m sure that’s what she’s reacting to, but the way I’m seeing Swifties respond to this is ridiculous. They’re acting as if he personally insulted her when he didn’t. It’s a worn-out joke about over-saturation. It was a dig at the NFL, not her.”
Another humorously acknowledged Swift's enviable status, commenting, “Poor Taylor Swift, between dating an NFL star, having the biggest concert tour ever, and being a person of the year, I really feel for her.”
Taylor Swift Is Conscious About The Paparazzi At The NFL Games
In a recent interview with Time Magazine, Swift discussed the challenges of dealing with unwanted attention during her appearances at the Kansas City Chiefs games to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce.
Expressing bewilderment about the paparazzi's ability to locate her, she stated, “I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in. There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.”
Conscious of the impact her visibility may have, she emphasized her intention at the games is to “support Travis.”
“I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and possibly pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads,” the pop star noted.
Taylor Swift Revealed She And Travis Kelce Met Before Her First NFL Game Appearance
In a different segment of her conversation with Time, Swift disclosed that her romantic involvement with Kelce predates her attendance at the first Chiefs game. The “Cruel Summer” hitmaker revealed that their connection began when Kelce mentioned her on his podcast, “New Heights.”
In a July podcast episode, the NFL player shared his disappointment about not being able to give the “New Romantics” singer a friendship bracelet during her "Eras Tour" stop, stating, “She doesn’t meet anybody, or at least she didn’t want to meet me, so I took it personally.”
Swift termed the incident as "metal as h---" and revealed they began hanging out shortly afterward.
She expressed gratitude for the period of privacy that allowed them to get to know each other, saying: “So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for because we got to get to know each other."
The Grammy Award-winning singer added: “By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game. We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”
