You Won't Believe What This Dog Ate And How His Owners Got It Back!

Cecil the dog has expensive taste - LITERALLY!

Maybe the adorable pup thought it was a challenge when his humans claimed he's "never done anything bad in his life." And now, they have quite the story to tell.

On December 8, the Pennsylvania family had quite the shock when they left $4,000 in cash on the table and just 30-minutes later, found that their dog Cecil had chowed down on it.

Clayton and Carrie Law had just taken money out of the bank, left it on the table, and were stunned to find their pup thought it was his meal.

"I was shocked. It was so out of character for him," Clayton told USA Today. "He wouldn't eat food off a coffee table. I was just in shock because it was very unlike him."

Cecil ate about half of the money and ripped up the rest, so the couple decided to search online "what to do if their dog eats money." One option that came up was to mail or drop off the mutilated money to the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, D.C. along with a letter explaining the damage and the estimated value, but that option could take six months to three years.

Instead of playing that waiting game, the couple decided to call the bank to ask if they could deposit damaged currency. They were told that something like this happens more often than we think and were advised to wait until the pup expelled the cash on his own.

"We were pretty down about the situation when it happened," Clayton said. "Around 2 a.m. that night, Cecil woke us up because he had to vomit. At that point, I got hope after seeing the $100 bills coming out."

Over the course of the next few days, Cecil was like a walking ATM machine expelling $50 and $100 bills. The Laws decided to put a system in place to help them sort through what they were finding - sifting through poop, washing the money found, and matching serial numbers on the scraps of bills and taping them back together.

"We invested several hours each day to recover our money," Carrie said. "We couldn't recover everything due to the pieces of cash getting smaller by day three."

They were able to recover about $3,550. And while they weren't happy about this situation at first, they're laughing now.

"We were mad originally, but now we just laugh about the whole situation," Clayton said. "When my wife posted the video on Instagram, we couldn't believe the response we got."

Carrie shared the whole experience in a video on Instagram captioned, "Finally ready to talk about last week ??? The bank assured us that this happens all the time." The video got more than 200,000 likes and 4,500 comments.

One person left an encouraging comment, "Banker here! You only need more than 50 percent of each bill for it to be considered replaceable! You don’t need the whole thing, good luck!" More than 22,000 people liked that comment and tons of other comments began flooding in under that one.

"This is what the internet is for!" one person wrote. Another added, "Was here to say the same thing! Not sure how many people are aware of that."

Others just enjoyed sharing jokes about the awkward but hilarious situation.

"You shouldn't feed cash to dogs. It's bad for their digestive systems. If you really feel you need to flex with expensive food, get that Farmer's Dog stuff," one person wrote.

Another said, "The puzzle no one wanted to complete this Christmas ?." And another viewer added, "If only scooping dogs' poop always ended with a hundred dollar bill.. everyone would scoop up after their dog ??."
