Beyond Hot Flashes: The Rise Of Menopause Makeovers

Everyone's heard of a mommy makeover, but have you heard about the menopause makeover?

Menopause makeovers, as well as a few other surgical and nonsurgical procedures, top the list of most sought-after cosmetic procedures in 2023 for many offices across the country.

During menopause, hormonal changes can create big changes in a woman's appearance. There are some surgical and nonsurgical procedures that can be done to reverse these changes.

"Menopause causes hormonal changes that can change the distribution of fat in a woman's body. Generally, women store fat in their thighs and buttock areas. Or as postmenopausal women store fat on their abdomen, back in addition to their butt and thighs, a woman's shape goes from pear like to apple like," Dr. Norman Rowe of Rowe Plastic Surgery told The Blast exclusively.

"Aging in general produces laxity of the skin and poor tone. These two factors produce the perfect storm for unwanted changes in a woman's appearance."

Rowe said he works on reversing the changes through techniques including laser, tummy tucks, liposuction, skin tightening, facelifts, brow lifts and eyelid lifts.

According to Allure, menopause makeovers are becoming as common as a mommy makeover and will continue to gain in popularity in the new year. Rowe said postmenopausal procedures have always been a popular option.

"Surgery postmenopausal has always been very popular, especially as women want to try to maintain their place in the workplace longer than they have previous decades," Rowe said.

"These women want to try and maintain their youthful appearance, in order to remain competitive in the workplace." 

According to Allure in December 2022, the biggest trends of 2023 were predicted to be facelifts, injectables, blepharoplasty, brow lifts, breast augmentation and liposuction.

And now a year later, Rowe shared what topped his office's list for the most popular procedures in 2023 and what he thinks will top the list in 2024.

6. Penis augmentation

"I think procedures that were popular in 2023 will continue to be popular in 2024," he told The Blast. "There will be even an increase in the number of laser treatments in order to reverse effects of time as these require minimal downtime."

Rowe said that he sees patients in all age groups seeking treatments to either reverse aging or to help prevent the effects of aging at a younger age.

For anyone thinking about getting Botox, fillers or a cosmetic procedure, Rowe shared some advice.

"Make sure you go to a reputable person. Cheapest is not always the best, especially when it comes to your health," he said. "You must be comfortable with the doctor taking care of you and he/she has to be confident that he/she can deliver what you want."
