A recent Instagram post shares news that Mellencamp will be having another surgery in the near future.

"Long story short. The immunotherapy treatment did not work on my melanomas. I had a wide excision removal on my most recent melanoma last week to see if it did and sadly it did not. I have been presented with a couple new options and I have decided with my doctors that the best next course of action is have surgery on December 26th to remove a larger portion of problematic area," she wrote.

"I don’t like going under and my anxiety is popping off but I have faith all will be ok and that the reason this is happening to me is because I am able to raise awareness."

She also explained that after the surgery is done and the "margins are clear," she will continue to closely monitor her body every three months. She's looking forward to spending the holiday with her loved ones and wants to remind everyone to schedule skin check appointments in the new year.

Since the beginning of her journey, Mellencamp has been transparent about all she's been going through. She always reminds people to get their skin checked with each update.

Her last update, in early November, explained that the immunotherapy wasn't working.

"Now that the noise has died down and I can focus on the important things like my family and my health, I wanted to give a little update since so many of you have been asking," she wrote in the caption of a photo of the affected area of her back. "My initial prescription of immunotherapy wasn’t working, so my doctor upped the dosage. And now we are seeing some movement. So in two weeks I will have a doctor’s visit and we will see how effective it has been."

A few weeks earlier, the podcast host shared an update about starting the immunotherapy but not seeing any results yet.

"Melanoma Immunotherapy Update: It’s been 12 days since I started the immunotherapy cream on my shoulder, and sadly it has not blistered yet. Blisters = it’s working. So my doctors are upping the dosage in the hopes that kicks it into gear," she wrote. "Otherwise, we are going to have to take next steps— which is a full skin graft of my shoulder, taking the skin from my lower abdomen. Let’s just say I have never prayed so hard for some blisters."

The reality star has also worked hard during this time to bring more awareness to the topic and partnered with #GetNaked in a campaign to educate others on melanoma.
