A 'Wednesday' spin-off is currently in the works with Amazon, which will follow Addams Family member Uncle Fester, who is played by Fred Armisen in the Netflix show, 'Wednesday.'
A new spin-off is in the very early stages of development and is reported to have Armisen reprise his role as Uncle Fester, the paternal uncle of Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega in the 2022 Netflix hit series.
Details such as a storyline, writers, and cast are still in the works, but Amazon — the company that owns the rights to The Addams Family -- has stated they are on board for the project.
'Wednesday' Spin-off Is Currently In Development
'Wednesday' is currently Netflix's most popular English language series, with more than 250 million views last year. No other details have been released surrounding the 'Wednesday' spin-off.
In the meantime, fans can look forward to a second season of Netflix's hit series, 'Wednesday,' although no release date has been announced at this time. Jenna Ortega has been confirmed to reprise her role as Wednesday Addams in the Netflix original series.
"We had already been throwing out so many ideas, and I'm somebody who's very hands-on. I want to know what's going on," Ortega admitted earlier this year. "And with a character like Wednesday, who is so beloved and such a legend, I just really didn't want to get her wrong. So, I try to have as many conversations as possible. On set, with the writers and Tim [Burton], we all would get together and decide, 'Okay, what works and what doesn't?' It was naturally already very collaborative."
The Uncle Fester spin-off was first reported by Bloomberg.
Jenna Ortega Calls ‘Wednesday’ Character A ‘Creepy Little Freak’
During an appearance at New York Comic Con, Jenna Ortega, spoke on her character and the impact she has had on viewers and fans everywhere.
“She’s a creepy, little freak,” Ortega said of her character at the event. “But her impact is absolutely unparalleled. I’ve never seen a normal person bring a group together like this, and create a family like this, and create a legacy like this, and that’s just a testament that we need weirdos in the world, and they’re what make the world go around.”
“Be weird, watch the show like do what you want to do,” she added. “And another beautiful thing too, about cinema and film is it should be reflective of what the real world is, but it’s a break from reality.”
Ortega continued, “We want to go home and, you know, leave our jobs and watch something that makes our brain turn off for a little bit and gives us adrenaline and makes us happy and makes us sad, and for a show like this, it has such a wide variety of characters it really does bring so much emotion and that is the intention.”
“And again, just sit back, enjoy the show. Relate, don’t relate, that’s your business, not mine,” she concluded.
At this time, there is no release date for 'Wednesday' Season 2 or for the new Uncle Fester spin-off.
