Matthew Perry's ex-girlfriend, Kayti Edwards, is calling for an investigation into the doctors who were treating Perry, claiming the actor may have obtained Ketamine from a medical professional rather than off the streets.

After an autopsy revealed Matthew Perry died from acute effects of the drug Ketamine, Perry's ex spoke out, stating "It's very hard to get ketamine on the street, but it is very easy for a doctor or a nurse to get," hinting at the possibility of Perry getting a hold of the drug from a medical professional.

Perry was utilizing Ketamine therapy at the time of his death for anxiety and depression, however, his last known treatment overseen by a medical professional was over one week before he passed, meaning the Ketamine found in his system could not have been from therapy as the drug’s half-life is only three to four hours.

Kayti Edwards, who dated Perry in 2006, noticed several red flags leading up to his death, including Perry's request to wean off ketamine and Buprenorphine (both are used in drug addiction treatment.)

Edwards, who also worked as Perry's assistant during the peak of his drug addiction, speculated, "In his brain, it's not the same as going on the street to buy crack or heroin. That probably was the stepping stone for him to go back to doing drugs. I think the doctors who had been working with Matthew [Perry] should be investigated."

Perry was reportedly “clean for 19 months,” but he was a heavy tobacco user for many years. According to his assistant, he would smoke two packs per day, but, at the time of his death, he had quit smoking.

On October 28, police responded to a 911 call to assist with a possible “water rescue” at Matthew Perry’s Pacific Palisades home. When they arrived, they found the 54-year-old “Friends” actor in the heated section of his pool, unresponsive.

The autopsy report stated that “drowning contributes due to the likelihood of submersion into the pool as he lapsed into unconsciousness; coronary artery disease contributes due to exacerbation of ketamine-induced myocardial effects on the heart. Buprenorphine effects are listed as contributory, even though not at toxic levels, due to the additive respiratory effects when present with high levels of ketamine.”

Ketamine is approved for use at high doses as an anesthetic in the operating room. Even though ketamine has been FDA-approved and legalized for use as a general anesthetic since the 1970s, it can be abused as a recreational drug.

In his 2022 memoir, Matthew Perry described his use of ketamine, a secluded anesthetic medication, also known as a psychedelic drug, stating it as a “giant exhale” he would receive while blindfolded and listening to music.

The drug can be used in Ketamine therapy, which is a treatment used by many celebrities (including Perry) to manage mental health conditions, such as treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The late actor then explained in his memoir that he would “disassociate” during his ketamine infusions and often felt as if he were “dying.”

“‘Oh,’ I thought, ‘This is what happens when you die,’” Perry recalled in his memoir of using the drug. “Yet I would continually sign up for this s--- because it was something different, and anything different is good.”

Perry further explained, “Taking [ketamine] is like being hit in the head with a giant happy shovel. But the hangover was rough and outweighed the shovel.”

Perry's Death Ruled An Accident

According to the autopsy report, obtained by The Blast, the actor is not believed to have been suicidal thoughts and has no known attempts to take his own life.

In the report, an unknown woman informed police that she spoke to Perry a few days before his unexpected death, and he seemed to be “in good spirits.” Although Perry had a history of depression, the unnamed woman said that the actor told her he would “never kill himself” and that there were no indications he wanted to end his own life.

It’s unclear why they went down this road of investigation, but obviously, it was something they questioned due to the way he was found unconscious.

Despite having a history of addiction, after a thorough investigation, Matthew Perry’s death was ruled an accident, meaning there is no belief that Perry intentionally ended his life.
