Popular rock band AC/DC is mourning the death of their original drummer Colin Burgess, who started playing with them in 1973 when he became a member.

The band paid tribute to the musician on social media, noting how heartbreaking his loss has been for them. Although Burgess didn't last long with the rock bank, he definitely left an indelible mark on the group and its fans.

AC/DC's Drummer Colin Burgess Has Died

According to a statement shared by the band on their Instagram and Facebook pages, the drummer has passed away at the age of 77. Burgess was the band's original drummer and started playing with them after joining the group in 1973.

Their statement read, "Very sad to hear of the passing of Colin Burgess. He was our first drummer and a very respected musician. Happy memories, rock in peace Colin." The musician's cause of death has yet to be disclosed.

Burgess' time with the group was short-lived as he was quickly kicked off the band a year after joining them for allegedly getting wasted while performing on stage in 1974. Per reports, Burgess claimed that his drink had been spiked in an attempt to keep his job with the band, but they had already made up their mind to let him go.

The AC/DC original drummer was eventually replaced by longtime member Phil Rudd and several other drummers.

Fan Tributes Pour In For Colin Burgess

Despite his short-lived time in the group, fans still remember Burgess and his contribution to the band's hit song, "Can I Sit Next To You Girl." They took to social media to pay tribute to him, noting that he is now rocking with other late AC/DC members.

One person said, "Rest in power, Colin Burgess. Your thunderous beats paved the way for generations of rockers to come. You'll always be remembered as the heartbeat of AC/DC's early years."

Another person noted, "RIP. Not enough said about the early drummers, Colin Burgess, Ron Carpenter, Russell Coleman, Noel Taylor or Peter Clack (who played on a few tracks on the Aussie High Voltage)."

"Him [sic] and Bon are rocking it out in the pearly gates," wrote a third person. Another stated, "Rest in peace. very beautiful soul and very talented, he was the best."

"Rock and rest in peace brother. Thank you for all that energy," a fan of the band commented. Another wrote, "Thanks for kickstarting everything man...rest in power."
