Almost two months after Matthew Perry's death, more information has been released to give clarity to the late actor's cause of death.
An official autopsy report obtained by The Blast revealed precisely Perry's cause and manner of death. The beloved actor died from the acute effects of Ketamine, with his manner of death ruled as an accident.
Perry was found dead in the backyard of his home in Los Angeles. His "Friends" co-stars have all personally paid tribute to him and are now reportedly planning to honor him at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
Matthew Perry's Manner Of Death Ruled As An 'Accident'
According to the actor's autopsy report, his death was ruled an "accident," and the cause was the acute effects of Ketamine. Perry was receiving ketamine infusion therapy, with the most recent dose beginning one and a half weeks prior to his death.
The document revealed that Perry was found "unresponsive, floating face down in [the] heated end of the pool" at the back of his L.A. home. Although there were prescription medications and loose pills present at his home, none were near the pool where he had died, and "no medications, drugs or drug paraphernalia adjacent to the pool."
The autopsy report also noted that there were "no signs of fatal trauma and no foul play suspected."
As reported by The Blast, the actor was using Ketamine therapy to treat his "anxiety and depression."
Perry's body was found in the hot tub at his home by his assistant, whom he had sent out on an errand while he reportedly partook in a two-hour game of Pickleball.
The autopsy reported drowning, coronary artery disease, and side effects from buprenorphine as contributing factors but not the direct cause of death.
Matthew Perry Foundation Was Launched In His Honor
Months before his unfortunate death, Perry conceived The Matthew Perry Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping people struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.
After his death, Perry's wish to support individuals in their journey to overcome substance abuse now lives on through The Matthew Perry Foundation.
A statement from the foundation read: "In the spirit of Matthew Perry's enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction, We embark on a journey to honor his legacy by establishing the Matthew Perry Foundation, guided by his own words and experiences, and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible."
Currently, the Matthew Perry Foundation, sponsored and managed by the National Philanthropic Trust and run as a donor-advised fund, only allows donations.
Matthew Perry's Co-Stars Plan To Honor Him At The 2024 Emmys
Perry's "Friends" co-stars are reportedly planning a tribute to the actor at the upcoming 75th Emmy Awards. An insider told the Daily Mail that Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Matt Le Blanc, and David Schwimmer plan to honor their late friend. Perry played the charismatic and hilarious Chandler Bing in the famous "Friends" series.
The source told the news outlet, "When it comes to Matthew's death, emotions are still running high and it is still a very touchy situation, which is totally understandable. But Jen, Lisa, and the rest of the cast want to honor him publicly at some point and give him the tribute he so rightfully deserves – and there have been rumblings to do it at next year's Emmys."
They alleged that five of the "Friends" cast members would love to share their memories of the time they spent with Perry. Adding, "If they can all agree on a worthy tribute and get the blessing of his family, they will absolutely get together to make that night a special moment for Matthew and all who loved him."
The 75th Academy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on January 15, 2024. The ceremony was first postponed following the recently concluded SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. Whether the Friends cast will honor Perry during a tribute section is still unclear.
