Chaka Khan has been embroiled in a legal battle after her dog allegedly attacked a neighbor at her Los Angeles property.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the "Ain't Nobody" singer is being sued for breach of contract and violating the rules of her lease, which included not having a certain number of pets on the premises.
Chaka Khan Sued For Breach Of Lease Agreement & Dog Attack
Khan is being sued by the owner of a Los Angeles property in Santa Monica, California. The owner alleged that the veteran singer entered a lease agreement that would expire on October 31, 2023.
Khan and her agent reportedly assured the owner that she would vacate the property and it would be turned over no later than November 1, 2023. Although the property owners claimed they held up their part of the bargain, the opposite was the case for the Queen of Funk.
The owner claims Khan "breached the lease by failing to vacate the property by November 1, 2023, [2] subletting the property to her son and other occupants in violation of the provision of the lease."
In addition, the ten-time Grammy Award winner allegedly failed to "pay holdover rent" and changed "the lock and/or entrance codes so as to prevent (the owner) from having access to the property. However, the highlight of the lawsuit claims that Khan violated the rule of not having a pet on the property, which resulted in an accident.
The filing stated that the singer, whose real name is Yvette Marie Stevens, broke the rules by "housing one or more pets on the property, contrary to the lease terms. On information and belief, the pet in question, a dog, chased and harmed a neighbor, who is now seeking recovery from (the owners.)"
The aggrieved property owner claims to have been "damaged in court" because of the dog incident and more and wants Khan to pay damages in an amount determined at trial.
They also want her to cover the costs of legal fees and pay other reliefs as the court deems proper. Khan is yet to respond to the lawsuit.

Chaka Khan Apologizes For Slamming Rolling Stone's Greatest Singers List
Khan's legal battle comes months after she made headlines for calling out Rolling Stone's list of Greatest Singers of All Time. The list ranked the "Do Love What You Feel" singer at number 29 ahead of singers like Aaliyah (40), Ariana Grande (43), and Toni Braxton (48). However, her longtime frenemy Mary J. Blighe placed above her at spot 25.
Queen of Christmas Mariah Carey was given the No.5 spot with Adele taking the No. 22 spot. During an interview with Andrew Goldman on his podcast "The Originals," Khan was congratulated for her inclusion in the prestigious list. However, she didn't seem pleased.
"I didn't even know what the hell you were talking about, so obviously this doesn't mean a great deal to me. These people don't quantify or validate me in any way," she told the host.
Going into detail about the ranking of the entrees, Khan disagreed with the placement, describing Carey's spot as "payola or some s--t like that." As for Adele's ranking, she quipped "Okay, I quit," but when she learned about Blige's placement, Khan lost it declaring, "These are blind b---hes! They are blind as a motherf--king bat! They need hearing aids. These must be the children of Helen Keller!"
She, however, agreed with Aretha Franklin's placement as No.1 and Whitney Houston as No.2. Unfortunately, social media didn't agree with Khan's reaction and blasted her. She later came out with an apology for her remarks, saying she didn't plan to hurt anyone.
"Recently, I was asked about a list of the 'greatest singers of all time' and instead of questioning the need for such a list, I was pitted against other artists and I took the bait," her statement began. "As artists, we are unfairly put into 'boxes,' 'categories' or on 'lists.' Being an artist or musician is not a competition. It's a gift, for which I am truly grateful."
Khan concluded her statement, "It was not my intention to cause pain or upset anyone. To anyone that felt this way, I sincerely apologize. Thank you for all the love everyone has shown me, unconditionally."
