Teyana Taylor Accuses Iman Shumpert of 'Gaslighting' & Trying To 'Avoid Paying Child Support'

Teyana Taylor has issued a response to her estranged husband, Iman Shumpert,claiming he is simply trying not to pay child support.

According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, Taylor claims Shumpert was the one who chose to take their divorce public after they had earlier resolved to settle things privately and amicably. She also accused Shumpert of trying to avoid paying child support by "gaslighting" and "manipulating" the situation.

This comes after Shumpert filed to force a change in Taylor's ground for the divorce after the dancer claimed in the filing that she felt "endangered."

The former couple's legal battle has taken a nasty turn after seemingly trying to work things out privately. According to Taylor, her estranged husband has been leaking his court filing to blogs and is trying to "gaslight" his way out of paying for child support.

In her latest filing, Taylor claims that Shumpert is responsible for the current media attention on their divorce, noting that the former basketball player "stated that he no longer wanted to resolve this matter amicably or privately. Instead, [Shumpert] decided to try this divorce case in the court of public opinion with [his]  false narratives."

Taylor then noted in the court document that "No amount of deception, gaslighting, or continued control and manipulation by [Shumpert] will achieve his apparent goal to avoid paying child support or to avoid an equitable division of the assets acquired during the parties' marriage."

The singer believes Shumpert is trying to avoid financial responsibilities that could result from this divorce.

She pleaded, "When determining the division of marital property" the court "must consider all of the relevant circumstances that caused the demise of the parties' marriage, including, but not limited to the conduct of the parties during the marriage."

Taylor also accused her ex-partner of intentionally leaking his court filings in an attempt to sway public opinion in his favor.

The former athlete recently requested a change in grounds for divorce after Taylor cited "cruel treatment" as her reason for requesting a legal separation from Shumpert. Taylor's reason hugely differs from several big Hollywood divorces, which usually cite "irreconcilable differences" as a reason for divorce.

Per The Blast, Shumpert's filing questioned his estranged wife's reason for divorce, emphasizing that Taylor has not proven he made her feel threatened despite her claims. He wants the court to dismiss her cause and replace it with "irretrievably broken bond" as grounds for divorce.

Responding to this, Taylor, who initially alleged "irreconcilable differences" before changing it to "cruel treatment," noted in her latest filing: "The petitioner never waived her right to amend her complaint for divorce, especially if the parties are unable to amicably resolve the issues relative to the dissolution of their marriage by agreement."

Adding, "Simply because [Shumpert] is bitter and does not like the [Taylor's] truth, that dislike does not change the facts of the case or the reasons why [she] came to the decision that this marriage must end."

The case is ongoing.

Prior to their now-messy divorce, Taylor and Shumpert attempted to do things amicably, with the singer even releasing a statement on Instagram in September, defending her estranged husband against cheating rumors while speaking on their separation.

She wrote at the time, "Not too much on my best friend! In all fairness, Iman and I are separated and have been for a while. To be 1000% clear, 'infidelity' isn't one reason for our departure. We are still best friends and great business partners, and we are one hell of a team when co-parenting our two beautiful children. Most importantly, we are FAMILY & in the ten years together, seven years married, we ain't ever played with or about THAT."

Taylor concluded the statement: "The only reason I'm even sharing THIS part of the chat is because the narratives are getting a little out of hand & it's unfair to all parties involved. I hope this provided some clarity for you all. Okay, AunTey, I'm taking you all back out of the chat. Bye!"

The former couple officially married in 2016 and share two kids, Iman "Junie" Shumpert, 7, and Rue Rose Shumpert, 3. They have been very open about their marriage and family and once had a reality show, "We Got Love: Teyana and Iman."
