The 911 calls from the University of Nevada - Las Vegas have been released to the public, with one caller stating "someone's shooting inside."
The release of the 911 calls comes after investigators revealed that the 67-year-old suspect, Anthony Polito, had a “target list,” however, none of the alleged victims from the shooting were listed.
Three people were killed, and a fourth individual was left with serious injuries during an attack on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus on Wednesday. Authorities have determined that the victims who were killed in the shooting were faculty or staff and not students.
Anthony Polito, a 67-year-old college professor, who also died on the scene, was named as the suspect shortly after the tragedy occurred. The investigation indicates Polito fired at police first, before law enforcement shot and killed him.
911 Calls Of UNLV Shooting Released
As the tragic events unfolded at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a woman, who was hiding under an office desk, called 911. That audio has now been released.
"Someone's shooting inside the office," she told the 911 operator in tears, per ABC. "Please hurry."
The operator then asked the woman how long ago she heard the gunshots, to which she responded, "They're happening right now."
The operator followed up by asking the caller if anyone else was with her, to which she replied, "It's just me. My boss is working from home."
According to reports, the suspect, Anthony Polito had applied for a teaching job in 2020 but was not hired. Polito died at the scene after a shoot-out with responding officers occurred approximately 10 minutes after the alledged suspect opened fire at the campus. A specific motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
A second 911 caller said, "I was getting off the elevator. I heard shots fired and screaming and I ran ... Lots of students are running out ... Two officers ran into the building and I ran out of the building."
Parents of the UNLV students also called 911 reporting that their children were hiding in classrooms.
UNLV Students Speak Out Following Tragedy
Journalism student Shainna Alipon spoke to the media after the tragedy, revealing the moment she heard gunfire from inside the Student Union Building.
“We made our way down the stairs of the building just to escape, and while we were walking down, we heard even more gunshots. I said ‘oh my gosh, I hope the shooter doesn’t come to the building where we’re at,’” she told ABC. “My editor-in-chief, he was kind of snapping me out of it, he was like, ‘hey can I borrow your phone? We have to take video of this; you know, we’re the press,’ and I was like, ‘oh shoot – you’re right.’ So I snapped out of it, started taking more videos, started talking to a little more people trying to see ‘hey is everyone on your end OK? What do you think is going on?’ It kind of solidified for the first time today – ‘oh I am a journalist; this is like my job.'”
