Lionel allegedly had heart issues and was taking medication for his health condition. A source close to the Dahmer family confirmed that the Medina County Health Department was informed of Lionel's death after it happened.

"It was slow at first, but he didn’t want to get up and move as much. It was almost as if he was ready to go," the insider said of the 87-year-old's passing.

The source continued, "There are plenty people out there who have a lot of respect and admiration for Lionel because of what he went through with Jeff and how he dealt with it. It's a very sad day for those who cared about him."

Per an informant, Lionel's final months weren't rosy as he often had hallucinations about his late cannibal son. "In his final months, he was heavily medicated and had hallucinations about seeing Jeff," the source said. "He was incoherent and asking if people had seen Jeff. He said that Jeff had come to see him."

The insider added, "He also asked about Shari, it was almost as if he was trying to remember happier times."

As you might know, Jeffrey Dahmer was a notorious serial killer who murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. His murders usually involved cannibalizing his victims and keeping their body parts.

He often met his victims at clubs or bars and lured them into his home under the premise of paying them money for their nude photographs. Jeffrey finally met his end when his final victim Tracy Edwards managed to escape in 1991.

Dahmer was arrested and convicted of 15 of the 16 homicides he committed. He was sentenced to 15 life terms — a total of 941 years — in February 1992. After his arrest and throughout the trial, Lionel stood by his son's side, often claiming his sin suffered mental health issues. Hence, the reason for his spine-chilling murders.

Lionel visited his son regularly while he was in prison until Jeffrey was murdered in prison by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver, at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Wisconsin in November 1994. Lionel was reportedly deeply pained by the incident and bemoaned the killing of his son.

His carer told The Sun US about Lionel's feelings about his son's passing: He [Lionel] is still very angry about it. Why weren't there any guards standing there watching? All three of them had improvised weapons right there. Why didn't any of them do anything?"

The carer added, "As far as I know, and the last I talked to Lionel, he believes the guards looked the other way and let it happen."

Jeffrey Dahmer's Dad Was Assaulted With 'Granny Panties'

After his son's death, Lionel was living a pretty low-key life in Ohio, away from the public eye, that is until the release of Netflix's "Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story."

Following the show's airing, Lionel’s house was intruded by some crazed fans, who even tried to break in despite a "No Trespassing" sign on the property.

Lionel's caretaker revealed that fans of his son were going to extreme lengths to get Lionel's attention. "We had a lady stop at the end of the driveway, take off her panties and throw them in the yard….I had to go out there with a pair of tongs to pick up this woman’s granny panties," the carer revealed.

He explained that the lady seemed to be in her early twenties, and despite not being allowed into the premises, she kept chanting, "I love you, Lionel."

In another bizarre case, a hostile male who was under the influence of a drug went to the property to seek out Lionel. "About two weeks ago, we had a guy pull up in a nice-looking car right in the middle of the driveway, about 20 or 30 yards from the front door. I came out, and he was acting erratic and violent, saying he wanted to see Lionel. He was a big guy and was acting very hostile," the carer recalled.

The trespasser started yelling curses and began acting crazier, forcing the carer to get a firearm and protect himself and Lionel.
