The fourth time might be the charm for Shannen Doherty!
The "Little House on the Prairie" alum has disclosed that despite stage 4 cancer spreading to her bones, she still has her heart set on finding love again.
The actress has already been married three times, with her most recent marriage, to Kurt Iswarienko, ending earlier this year.
Shannen Doherty Has A Strong Belief In Another Chance At Long-Term Romance
Even though she is currently fighting the "scariest" battle of her life, Doherty is not slowing down from going after the things she wants. And what she wants now — as she revealed during an interview — is to find love again.
Disclosing that her desire to fall in love again was a very recent discovery, the "Beverly Hills, 90210" star stated, "I was not ready at all before three weeks ago. And something happens. There's always a trigger, just a moment that you have, somebody says something to you, your ex says one thing to you and you're like, 'Okay, yeah, I'm good. I'm good.' I have closure and I can move on in a really healthy way."
In response to inquiries about the potential relationship ahead, the 52-year-old was not shy to acknowledge uncertainty about its nature. In her words, "I have a best friend, a male best friend who we joke that we're married. I don't know if it's that or if it's stumbling upon somebody and just feeling an instant connection. I'm open, and I wasn't [before]."
The Memphis native added even though she doubted she would be "single forever," she has to love herself and "reckon with the past," before moving forward. "And now I'm pretty sure I'll meet somebody — hopefully soon," she expressed.
While admitting that she shared many "good years" with Iswarienko, Doherty, previously married to Rick Salomon and Ashley Hamilton, declared her readiness to move forward from her past.
"Listen, Elizabeth Taylor still has me beat as far as husbands and divorces, so I'm good. I'm not there yet, so there's no reason to be negative about it. S— happens," she shared with PEOPLE about her and the "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" actor's split.
In line with moving on, the "Charmed" performer filed a "preliminary declaration of disclosure" last month, outlining information about assets, debts, community and separate property, and current income and expenses.
The filing, according to The Blast, commonly indicates that she has furnished all financial details to her former husband, paving the way for a potential agreement on the distribution of assets and financial matters. It also hints at the possibility of an impending divorce settlement.
The estranged couple exchanged vows in a sweet ceremony in Malibu, California, on October 15, 2011, and enjoyed a seemingly happy marriage until April 2023 when Doherty revealed that she had filed for divorce from Iswarienko. They have no children together.
The Education Connection Spokesperson Is Not Prepared to Die Soon
Amid her desire to fight for love, Doherty also wants to fight for her life, regardless of how dire her health might seem. During the same interview, the Republican candidly spoke about her will to live for a long, long time despite her cancer battle.
"I don't want to die. I'm not done with living. I'm not done with loving. I'm not done with creating. I'm not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I'm just not—I'm not done."
She revealed that her cancer diagnosis opened up a new portal that not only profoundly shaped her perspective but also motivated her to explore a larger purpose in life. To that end, Doherty pondered, "When you ask yourself, 'Why me? Why did I get cancer?' and then 'Why did my cancer come back? Why am I stage 4?,' it leads you to search for a greater purpose in life."
Later in the conversation, the "Dancing with the Stars" season 10 contestant shared that her "greatest memory is yet to come" and discussed how she frequently prays "for the things that matter to me without asking for too much."
She also delved into how living with cancer has influenced her perspective on life, explaining, "I know it sounds cheesy and crazy, but you're just more aware of everything, and you feel so blessed. We're the people who want to work the most, because we're just so grateful for every second, every hour, every day we get to be here."
