Teyana Taylor is said to be furious as her dreams of having a private divorce from Iman Shumpert are no longer possible.
The multihyphenate star made headlines for her separation from the NBA star despite her efforts to keep the split under wraps. New details about the ex-couple's dissolution claim the pair are not living under the same roof, which may be the former basketball player's fault.
Teyana Taylor Is Allegedly Mad At Iman Shumpert For Making Their Divorce Public
The drama between the music video director and her ex-beau began after details of their divorce proceedings were leaked to the public — a mishap the "Google Me" singer reportedly blames on the former New York Knicks member.
The soon-to-be-divorced couple's identities became publicly known after Shumpert revealed their names in a recent court filing in their divorce case. The 33-year-old's actions ruined Taylor's plans for privacy as she protected the former lovebirds and their two children by using their initials when she started the divorce process in January.
Despite filing to end her 7-year marriage to the NBA star at the start of 2023, the choreographer did not announce the duo's separation until September. In her Instagram announcement, the mother of two assured fans that she and Shumpert remained on good terms, but sources recently shared a different story.
Insiders close to the exes disclosed their rocky dynamic to TMZ. These informants claimed Taylor was "incredibly disappointed and frustrated" with the Berwyn native for revealing their identities in his divorce filing.
The issues continue, as the pair also do not live under the same roof and have minimal communication. Sources noted the duo only talked about their two children — daughters Iman "Junie" Tayla Shumpert and Rue Rose Shumpert.
This was not the first time the "Rose In Harlem" singer's protective nature has made waves. Days earlier, the multihyphenate star fiercely defended her children's privacy following leaked court documents about her divorce from Shumpert.
The entertainer addressed the situation on social media with a lengthy rant, clarifying that she never exposed details about her divorce, contrary to the claims from sources. In the Soul Train Music Award winner's words:
"I mind my business, don't bother nobody & y'all know I've never played about my children, family & our privacy. I have not spoken on this private matter to any media outlets or blogs, etc."
"So everyone claiming 'Teyana said' didn't get any statements directly from ME. These statements were taken from private court documents that were leaked to the public," the New York City native continued, adding that she was distraught about the situation because of her children. The TV personality wrote:
"Protecting my family is one thing I've ALWAYS done & for my children, I will continue to do so. Please, if y'all love y'all play nieces Junie & Rue like y'all have shown, please allow myself & my family some privacy to resolve this matter in peace."
Inside Teyana Taylor & Iman Shumpert's 10-Year Relationship
Although they spent seven years together in matrimony, the "Madea's Big Happy Family" actress and the former basketball player have a long history together. The pair first met at a party in 2011, shortly after the athlete was drafted into the NBA, but did not form romantic bonds as Taylor was in a relationship.
Cut to 2013; the lovebirds were single and happily mingling after the caramel-toned beauty offered to care for Shumpert following his knee surgery. The couple went official on Instagram 2014 on the former Cleveland Cavaliers member's 24th birthday.
Things got hotter in 2015 with the duo's first pregnancy announcement in September, and their engagement news came in November. Shumpert and Taylor revealed they were ready to walk down the aisle during their baby shower at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland.
After welcoming their daughter Iman in December 2015, the couple secretly tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at home. The "A Thousand and One" actress revealed the big news on social media in 2016, sharing a picture of herself, Shumpert, and their daughter rocking matching jackets with the words "I DO," "I DO TOO," and "OH!... ME TOO" on their respective leather outfits.
In 2020, the power couple welcomed their second daughter, Rue, in September and enjoyed more years of bliss until Taylor announced their separation in September 2023. "Iman and I are separated and have been for a while," the entertainer revealed before declaring:
"We are still best friends and great business partners, and we are one hell of a team when co-parenting our two beautiful children. Most importantly, we are FAMILY & in the ten years together, seven years married, we ain't ever played with or about THAT."
