Ozzy Osbourne Says Antidepressants Had Adverse Effect On His Sex Drive Amid Other Health Issues

Legendary musician Ozzy Osbourne recently opened up about how antidepressants have seriously affected his sex drive. The Black Sabbath rocker started the drugs after hitting a mental health "plateau" that was severely low. 

Ozzy has fought multiple health battles recently, including a Parkinson's diagnosis and numerous surgeries for his severe falls.

During a recent episode of "The Osbourne Podcast," Ozzy opened up about the side effects he's experienced since he started taking antidepressants. The rock icon said that the drug treatment has had an adverse effect on his body, especially his sex drive.

Ozzy said, per Fox News, "The one thing about antidepressants is it kills your sex drive instantly. If you go on an antidepressant, with most of them, your sex drive goes." 

His son Jack interjected, saying, "It's not guaranteed; it's just a possible effect." Ozzy then refused and said that the loss of sex drive is a "guaranteed" effect of antidepressants.

The singer's daughter, Kelly, joined in the conversation, noting, "Dad's basically saying, 'I took antidepressants, and it took my sex drive.'" Ozzy agreed with her and said that every type of antidepressant that he's ever taken in his life has "killed" his sex drive.

During a conversation with Observer last year, Ozzy revealed that he started taking the antidepressants when his mental health hit a "plateau" that was much lower than he wanted. 

He said, "Nothing really felt great. Nothing. So I went on these antidepressants, and they work OK."

Aside from his mental health struggles, Ozzy has fought multiple other health battles. This includes his Parkinson's disease diagnosis in 2003, for which the rockstar has shared that he takes three pills daily. 

Treatments for Parkinson's can cause side effects like short-term memory loss and reduced cognition. He told the Observer, "You learn to live in the moment, because you don't know [what's going to happen]. You don't know when you're gonna wake up and you ain't gonna be able to get out of bed. But you just don't think about it." 

The "Paranoid" singer has also had multiple surgeries done after a 2019 fall at his home worsened injuries from his 2003 ATV crash.

So far, Ozzy has had multiple operations, including back surgery, stem cell treatments, Hybrid Assistive Limb treatment, and physical therapy. 

Through it all, he's had the support of his wife, Sharon Osbourne, whom he said has kept him strong. He said, "Without my Sharon, I'd be f----- gone. We have a little row now and then, but otherwise, we just get on with it."

Sharon has also opened up about Ozzy's health battles and recently revealed to the Daily Mail that he's no longer "self-sufficient." The TV personality spoke about how careful they need to be with Ozzy because he's taken "huge amounts of blood thinners." 

She explained that another serious fall could cause Ozzy to "bleed out" and compared her husband to "a piece of china" that needs "cotton wool" for protection.

She said, "For nearly five years my husband's been really sick. Relationships change all the time, as we change. We're at a stage where I've been taking care of my husband, not because I have to but because I want to and I love him. He's had seven operations in five years. There's nothing more they can do. Now it's about recuperating."

During her conversation with the news outlet, Sharon said the most challenging part has been watching Ozzy's declining health make him rely on a cane and wheelchair for mobility. 

She said, "It's just been heartbreaking for me to see my husband in a position where he's not self-sufficient, he needs help. He was so vibrant, with such a zest for life. But you learn to adapt."

Sharon emphasized to the publication that she will "always be there" for Ozzy because she adores and loves him. She said, "I owe him so much. He gave me the best things in my life, my kids."

In recent weeks, Ozzy has been photographed going around in a wheelchair amidst his weakening health.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee has also been seen using a cane on numerous occasions to get around. Ozzy's mobility has become worse since he had "life-altering" surgery to remove and realign multiple pins in his back and neck. The pins were placed after the 2019 fall worsened his injuries.
