Britney Spears Was 'Heartbroken' To Lose Grammy To Christina Aguilera, Jamie Lynn Spears Claims
During the latest episode of the U.K. reality show “I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!,” Jamie Lynn, 32, revealed that Britney, 41, was left “heartbroken” after Christina Aguilera won the Best New Artist award during the 2000 Grammy Awards.
Jamie’s campmate, “Made in Chelsea” alum Sam Thompson, discussed losing at the British Podcast Awards earlier this year, which prompted the admission.
“Want to hear about something really embarrassing that happened one time?” Jamie Lynn asked her costars. “It involves my sister. She was up for her first Grammy. It was her and Christina [Aguilera].”
“Britney was clearly the bigger star of that year, she worked her a-- off,” Jamie Lynn continued. “They had MTV camera crews at home watching our family, because it was like a no-brainer, she's winning. And she's there and she lost."
“What did she do?” Thompson, 31, asked.
“She was at the awards show, she was at the Grammys,” Jamie Lynn explained. “I was so young, I was probably like 8 or 7 or something. I just remember being like, ‘This is c---.’ ”
“Christina won it, and by the way remember Christina was wonderfully talented, but that year, I mean come on, let's be honest, ‘It’s Britney, b----’ like always.”
“She was really like, ‘I don’t ever want to go to the Grammys.’ She was heartbroken about that because her whole life had been dedicated to winning that.”
Thompson joked, “Britney, I understand.”
Britney did return to the Grammys and won the best dance recording for “Toxic” in 2004 after receiving eight nominations.
The ‘Zoey 101’ Star Addresses Her Relationship With Britney Spears
During a chat with “First Dates” maître d' Fred Sirieix, the “Zoey 101” star gave fans a little bit of insight into her relationship with her sister following the release of her memoir “The Woman In Me.”
“I think every family fights and has their stuff but I talked to her before I came here and we love each other,” she said.
Despite calling her a “total b----” in her memoir, Britney admitted that she is trying to have “more compassion” for her sister as she still struggles to understand the role that she played in her controversial 13-year conservatorship, which lasted from February 2008 to November 2021.
“She will always be my sister, and I love her and her beautiful family. I’m working to feel more compassion than anger toward her, and everyone who I feel has wronged me. It’s not that easy,” Britney wrote in the book.
Jamie Lynn Spears Breaks Down Over Missing Her Two Daughters
The “Zoey 102” actress is a mom to two daughters: Maddie, 15, and Ivey Joan, 5. She is nearly 14,000 miles away from her children, who are back home in Louisiana. In one episode that aired this week, Jamie Lynn needed to receive a pep talk from Danielle Harold and Sam Thompson back at their camp as she struggled with being away from her daughters.
"You're so strong. This is tough babe, tough. So tough. It's not easy," Harold told her.
"Why am I crying so much?" Jamie Lynn said before pointing out, "Josie has a baby at home."
"It's important to remember you've come from a whole different continent, you don't know anyone here, it's hard. It's real hard," Thompson responded.
"Look at the s--- you've been through in your life, right? This, a little bit of rain in the jungle, is nothing," Harold offered.
"But at least all that s--- I could go home to my babies every night, you know? That's it, that's all I need in life. It feels a little bit overwhelming. They're not even close," Jamie Lynn replied. "I've got to just do it. I don't know why I'm being such a baby."
"I get it, man, I've got two cats at home — Albus and Cedric, little fluffy men. Know what I mean? So, I get it. Not kids, but I get it," Thompson offered, while Harold joked, “Let it out, Sam.”
Later in the show, Jamie Lynn became emotional again and almost quit. "I do not want to be here. F--- this," she said. "I just want to see my kids, that's it. I'll stay out here with these fricking critters, just let me see them."
However, she changed her tune shortly after, insisting, "I want to try and suck it up so I can be a better campmate." It’s worth noting that Jamie Lynn Spears did choose to withdraw from the first season of “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test” due to how much she missed her children.
