Tori Spelling is adding being in Uncle Sam's bad books to her long list of personal troubles as she has been targeted for failing to pay taxes.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the "Beverly Hills, 90210" alum had several tax liens filed against her by the State of California Franchise Tax Board for owing thousands of dollars.
Tori Spelling Owes Almost $100K In Unpaid Taxes
Spelling was slapped with two liens from the tax collector after allegedly failing to pay taxes. The first lien revealed the famous actress owed $59,049.02 for unpaid taxes spanning the years 2017, 2018, and 2019. Plus, she got hit with another one for the year 2021, for $36,717.11.
In total, Spelling owes the state about $96,000 in unpaid taxes. The lien was filed against Spelling's Calabasas home. As is always the case, the Tax Board warns that further interest and fees will continue to accrue until the liens are fully paid off.
The tax liens come as details of Spelling's tumultuous marriage to estranged husband Dean McDermott play out. Recall that in June, the Canadian host announced that their marriage of almost two decades was coming to an end.
"It's with great sadness and a very, very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways and start a new journey of our own," McDermott wrote at the time.
The "Chopped Canada" host, however, immediately deleted the statement, and both parties kept quiet about the state of their marriage, despite being seen with different people on multiple occasions.
That was until recently when McDermott, for the first time, confirmed that indeed his marriage to Spelling is on thin ice. In a bombshell interview, the father-of-five shared his side of the story of how his marriage fell apart, confessing that it was majorly affected by his addiction to prescription pills and alcohol.
"All Tori's ever done to this day is want me to be happy and healthy, and I inflicted a lot of damage and pain on that woman,” McDermott said to Daily Mail. "I'm taking accountability for that today. And it's the biggest amend that I'm ever going to have to make."
He opened up about how he would get drunk on tequila and drugs and enter into "alcohol-fueled rages," leaving Spelling and their children "petrified." The 57-year-old explained that his substance addiction was fueled by his depression as well as his family being bombarded by the paparazzi while having financial issues.
McDermott recalled, "Alcohol made me feel good enough. I started feeling good enough until it got to a point where it didn’t – it ended up in isolation. It ended up with me drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful of narcos [prescription meds] by myself with a beautiful family in the other room."
The "Due South" star added that his addiction led to the "brokenness" and even inspired the since-deleted statement about the end of their marriage in June. "My worst memory with Tori is that last fight when I was drunk and angry. It was the night that I raged against her and the children and I saw the light, the final flicker of the flame go out in her eyes. I posted that because I was at the end of my rope. I didn’t know what to do. I had burned everything down yet again," he recalled of the incident.
"I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t live that life anymore. I was tired of the anger and the yelling."
Despite his wrongdoings, the television personality, who claims to be sober now, declared he was still in love with his estranged wife.
Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott Headed For A Custody Battle?
Although Spelling and McDermott are yet to officially file for a divorce, sources claim their separation has taken a toll on the Ontario native's relationship with his five children — Liam, Stella, Hattie, Finn, and Beau.
"He wants access to the kids and he wants to set a good example," claimed the informant who said McDermott hasn't seen his children since June, when he typed the break-up message.
Per reports, after posting the Instagram message, McDermott attended a 40-day stint in rehab at Harmony Place selected with Spelling's help. Despite him being clean now, he is reportedly still trying to get into the "Kiss The Bride" actress' good books so he can gain access to his kids.
As is sometimes the case with celebrity breakups, there is the possibility that McDermott and Spelling might turn to the legal system to battle it out.
