On Monday night, Britney shared a text that read:
“He went on to say, ‘There needs to be transparency about how or whether the filmmakers are profiting from this doc, or if defense, or to legal defense funds to aide those who do not have the financial resources to fight against undue conservatorships.’
But is Britney Spears okay with people making these documentaries?”
For clarity, the statement was made by Lady Gaga’s manager, Bobby Campbell, in the comments of a teaser for the Netflix documentary “Britney vs. Spears” that came out in September 2021.
“How much money is being made by third parties from this documentary leveraging Britney’s personal story and its value in the media?” Campbell wrote, as per Billboard. “There needs to be transparency about how or whether the filmmakers are profiting from this doc, or if they are donating their fees to Britney’s legal defense, or to legal defense funds to aide those who do not have the financial resources to fight against undue conservatorships. Even if it is in support of freeing Britney, this appears that it could be exploitative.”
Britney’s ex, Sam Asghari, reacted to the comment with a “100” emoji. The “Special Ops: Lioness” actor also commented on the teaser, writing, “I hope the profit from these docs go towards fighting against injustice #freebritney.” The former couple had just gotten engaged that month. Although they wed in June 2022, Sam filed for divorce in August 2023.

In a lengthy caption, Britney really focused on the last sentence, which read, “But is Britney Spears okay with people making these documentaries?”
“Interesting 🤔 The last sentence !!! Would it matter if I wasn’t ok with it ??? JUST SAYING !!!!” she wrote in the caption. “Hmmm defense in funding those who do not have financial resources to fight against conservatorships ??? Or for people to manipulate the system showing hour long documentaries showing my hardest times 3 years ago proclaiming I’m supposed to benefit from THAT !!!”
“BULLS--- !!! Is it all regulated in talking s--- ??? Come on duals and most arguments are always calculated through 2 sides !!! The bottom line is intention !!! What angle 📐 were they coming at ???” she asked. “Was it to demonstrate support … understanding … love ??? Why no !!! None of these !!! It was to offend and offend only !!!”
Britney Made Sure Not To Offend Anyone With Her Memoir 'The Woman In Me'
In a message posted both to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram, a few days before her book was officially released, Britney made it clear that she was not trying to "offend" anyone when she opened up on her conservatorship and her relationships with her estranged family in her tell-all memoir, which sold over 1.1 million copies within the first week of release.
“My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means !!! That was me then …that is in the past !!!” she began. “I don’t like the headlines I am reading …that’s exactly why I quit the business 4 years ago !!! Most of the book is from 20 years ago … I have moved on and it’s a beautiful clean slate from here !!!”
“I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life !!!” she continued. “Either way, that is the last of it and s— happens !! This is actually a book didn’t know needed to be written … although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future !!!”
“Hopefully I can enlighten people who feel particularly alone in most cases or hurt or misunderstood !!! Again, my motive for this book was not to harp on my past experiences which is what the press is doing and it’s dumb and silly !!!” she concluded. “I have moved on since then !! #TheWomaninMe.”
Britney Spears’ tell-all memoir, “The Woman In Me,” was officially released on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
