'SNL' Star Dana Carvey's Son Dex's Cause Of Death Revealed

Former "Saturday Night Live" comedian Dana Carvey's eldest son, Dex, has died. 

Dex was reportedly found unresponsive on his bathroom floor after his girlfriend called 911. According to his famous father, the young up-and-coming comedian died of an "accidental drug overdose."

He was one of two of Dana's sons and followed in his father's footsteps, pursuing a comedy career.

Following the shocking news of his death, Dex's parents, Dana and Paula released a statement, detailing how heartbroken they were by his passing.

According to a report, the 32-year-old comedian was locked in his bathroom, where first responders discovered him lying on the floor unresponsive after a 911 call by his girlfriend.

The paramedics reportedly tried to revive Dex but were unsuccessful and eventually pronounced him dead on the scene.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has already conducted an autopsy on Dex, and his official cause of death is pending toxicology reports. But a statement by his parents reveals that he likely died from a "an accidental drug overdose."

Following the shocking news of his son's passing, Dana and his wife, Paula Zwargerman, took to their social media page to share a heartfelt statement.

The 68-year-old former "SNL" star wrote, "Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old."

He added, "Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things — music, art, filmmaking, comedy — and pursued all of them passionately."

In the statement, the couple highlighted their son "loved life" and that "when you were with him, you loved life too." They shared that Dex "made everything fun" and, most importantly, "loved his family, his friends, and his girlfriend, Kaylee."

"Dex was a beautiful person," the couple's statement continued. "His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. Will will miss him forever."

Concluding, they extended their love to people who are struggling with addiction, saying, "To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers."

Dana and Paula are also parents to Dex's younger brother, Thomas, who is also into comedy.

Dana had a booming career in the late '90s but decided to step away from the spotlight to focus on his family and raising his sons, Dex and Thomas, with his wife, Paula.

Speaking about his decision to take a break from Hollywood, Dana told People magazine in 2019, "I have friends who get stressed about fading or not being as hot. I never quite engaged that. I have a lot of drive to try to be the best I can be, have people be blown away by what I do and repeating it. But the other side of me is fine wherever I am."

He added that when his kids came into the picture, he made no hesitation to ditch the spotlight to focus on fatherhood.

"My wife and I made two humans, so I thought I probably should make some adjustments based on the two humans being there," Dana said at the time.

Just like their father, Dex and Thomas both took to comedy and accompanied Dana to some of his shows, where they performed alongside the legend.
