Joe Alwyn has returned to the public scene for the first time since his ex Taylor Swift's whirlwind romance with Travis Kelce hit the headlines!

The English actor joined other celebrities at the GQ Men of the Year Awards, marking his return since his ex-girlfriend began dating the NFL star. In light of the occurrence, a multitude of fans took to social media to defend his honor before critics could say anything detrimental against him.

On Wednesday, Alwyn walked the red carpet at London's Royal Opera House, sporting a white dress shirt, a buttoned black leather jacket, and matching black slacks. He finished his look with a black wristwatch, a matching bracelet, a tie, and a pair of attention-grabbing boots.

In the days leading up to the event, the "Conversations With Friends" actor, who was last seen at an event in May, had participated in an act that warmed the hearts of numerous people.

As it turned out, the 32-year-old had signed the "Artist Call for Ceasefire Now" petition, which asked the United States President Joe Biden and the United States Congress to "call for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel before another life is lost."

Thus, when one critic uploaded an old image of him at Swift's 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour claiming that he was "forced to be" there, a supporter was quick to shut them down. They wrote, "I need y'all to leave Joe Alwyn alone at least he had the b— to sign the ceasefire letter."

Another viewer dropped video evidence of the University of Bristol alum at the concert, writing in the caption:

"always trynna rewrite history when joe alwyn was blushing & giggling. swifties are so blindsided by irrational hate that they cannot fathom how introverts react, especially when the attention is focused on them forget joe alwyn like taylor and MOVE ON."

Similarly, when another X user called out actor Taylor Lautner and his wife, Taylor Dome, for "sympathizing with invisible 'brutally murdered israeli civilians,' a third supporter declared, "This is why I preach Joe Alwyn will always be the best ex," alongside two screenshots.

While one screenshot was the aforementioned letter, the second showed a list of celebrities who had signed it, with two heart emojis next to Alwyn's name. A fourth supporter passionately expressed

"Taylor Swift dated a raging misogynistic racist right after her and Joe broke up. She hasn't said s— about Palestine. Joe hasn't dated anyone + signed the ceasefire petition.!But Joe Alwyn is the villain in that situation."

At the same time, a fifth onlooker disclosed that the "Joe Alwyn slander" saddened them because despite him and Swift not working out, "he's not an awful human." They added, "he signed the cease letter and at the end of the day was just too introverted for Taylor. they were just different and didn't work out. that's all. leave him alone."

"Joe Alwyn is no coward. he took a risk in signing the document and that is freaking respectable," a sixth internet citizen wrote, as another dubbed Alwyn's haters as "uncreative and annoying," adding:

"just be happy for Taylor without getting back into her personal business that you don't know s— about. not to mention that if one day travis and taylor break up, y'all gonna have for that man the same treatment, embarassing ?."

In case you missed it, reports of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama graduate and Swift being an item first surfaced in May 2017. However, one source pointed out that the former couple had actually kicked off their romance months ago, albeit secretly.

By June of the same year, the pair made their way down to Nashville to visit the "Blank Space" singer's parents, with a source exclusively informing PEOPLE, "They arrived in Nashville on Friday and spent the weekend there together. Joe hasn't spent very much time with her family before, so it does seem they are getting more serious."

Although the "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" actor supported his then-girlfriend from the crowd during an iHeartradio performance, it wasn't until May 2018 that they went Instagram official.

In July, Swift paused her "Reputation" tour to enjoy a beach vacation with Alwyn to Turks and Caicos, where they were seen frolicking together in the ocean. The "Shake It Off" artist then got a chance to spend time with her man's family when she had lunch with his brothers, Thomas and Patrick Alwyn.

The ex-lovebirds continued thriving in their love, often appearing at events like the 2019 Golden Globes, the 2019 BAFTAs, the "Saturday Night Live" afterparty, and the "Cats" premiere.

They also won a Grammy Award in 2021 for their collaboration on Swift's album, "Folklore" and the "You Belong With Me" performer visited Allen in Ireland in September 2022 amongst many other sweet gestures.

However, by April 2023, their relationship had run its course, with one insider claiming that they broke up due to "differences in their personalities."
