Concerns persist about the potential eruption of an Icelandic volcano as magma continues to spread underground, accompanied by substantial cracks emerging in the roads of the town most susceptible to the threat, per The Independent.

While seismic activity in southwestern Iceland experienced a reduction in both size and intensity on Monday, authorities emphasized that the likelihood of a volcanic eruption remains significant.

On Monday, approximately 900 earthquakes struck the southern part of the country, adding to the tens of thousands of tremors reported in the Reykjanes region in recent weeks.

Over the weekend, nearly 4,000 individuals were evacuated from Grindavik due to concerns that molten rock could reach the surface, posing a potential threat to the coastal town and a nearby geothermal power station.
