Mackenzie Dern Speaks Out Following UFC Fight
Prior to UFC 295, Dern had never lost by TKO, so when Jéssica Andrade knocked Mackenzie Dern out during the second round of Saturday's main card fight, the UFC world was left shocked. Nearly 24 hours after the fight, the 30-year-old took to social media to break her silence.
"Everything happens at the right time," she began to write alongside a video of her face, revealing her black eye as a result of the fight. "Of course, I was wishing my best performance at MSG and not my first TKO loss, lol, but I Trust in God's plans!"
The UFC fighter continued, "I have to learn, to control my emotions! I got caught in an emotional fight, which wasn’t the plan. I wanted to do a lot, but not get in big exchanges, where it’s risky."

The 30-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion recently revealed that she was going through a divorce with her ex-husband, which also included a custody battle for their daughter. The recent divorce and custody battle may have played a part in where Dern's head was going into this fight.
Prior to UFC 295, Mackenzie Dern stated that emotion is something she is focusing on. “That’s something that I’m making sure that with Jéssica I can’t get into, that brawling,” Dern stated. “I don’t have a problem to be in the striking, but controlled, you know? Not letting the emotions (take over). I think the champions, they know how to control their emotions and be in the whole fight.”
Mackenzie Dern's Focus Is On The Belt
Moving forward, Mackenzie Dern promised to continue to train and prep for future fights, as her goal is to take home the belt.
"I took 4 knockdowns, that was the first lol Once again I was tested, given the opportunity, and didn’t pass," Dern continued to write in the caption of the video on social media. "This is the risk when we enter the octagon, I knew it was going to be a good fight because we both go for the finish. But I learned a lot, and the focus is the belt!"
Andrade took down Dern by TKO for the first time in Dern’s history in round two of the main event on Saturday. Prior to last night's event, Dern was 12-3-0, never being knocked out and never losing by submission. Her three losses were by decision.

She is now traveling back home to be with her daughter and to "enjoy time with my family and train more because I’ll be back soon."
This won't be the last time fans see Dern as she promised, "The goal continues, I just need to work more calmly, this warrior has a lot of emotion in everything she does! Lol fall 7 times and get up 8!"
