"@taylorswift13 just a thought, U should go in & re-record all the songs that U don't own the masters on exactly how U did them but put brand new art & some kind of incentive so fans will no longer buy the old versions," Clarkson tweeted at the time. "I'd buy all of the new versions just to prove a point."

Fast forward to October, Swift unveiled "1989 (Taylor’s Version)," a re-recorded rendition of her 2014 album.

In response to a question from an E! reporter, Clarkson addressed her 2019 tweet, where she suggested that Swift re-record her songs following Scooter Braun's acquisition of the "Anti-Hero" singer's musical catalog in a $300 million sale.

Although Clarkson was pleased to express her support, she holds the belief that Swift would have ultimately addressed the situation independently.

"I love how kind she is though," she said. "She's a very smart businesswoman. So, she would have thought of that. But it just sucks when you see artists that you admire and you respect really wanting something and it's special to them. You know if they're going to find a loophole, you find a loophole. And she did it and literally is, like, the best-selling artist I feel like of all-time now."

Swift's re-recording achieved her 13th No. 1 on the Billboard chart and surpassed sales of 1.6 million units in the U.S. (with over 3.5 million units worldwide) in its first week alone. This accomplishment broke her own record, previously set with the 2014 album, which sold 1.287 million units.

The latest album achieved remarkable sales, with 693,000 copies sold on vinyl. This marks the highest week of sales for this format since at least 1991. Notably, it also surpasses Swift's previous vinyl record of 575,000 for "Midnights," just a year ago.

"1989 (Taylor’s Version)" achieved impressive sales of 554,000 copies on CD, marking the highest weekly number for that format since Adele's "25."

The announcement was made on August 9, coinciding with the conclusion of the U.S. leg of her Eras Tour in Los Angeles.

"There's something that I've been planning for a really, really, really ridiculously, embarrassingly long time, and instead of telling you about it, I think I'll just sort of show you," Swift said as she presented the cover art on the screen behind her.
