'Dexter' Star Julie Benz Files Restraining Order Against Obsessed Fan Threatened To Cut Her Throat

Julie Benz, best known for her roles in "Dexter" and "Saw V", has filed a restraining order after an obsessed fan threatened to cut her throat with a knife.

According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, Benz and her husband, Richard Orosco, were granted a restraining order against an obsessed fan, who must now stay 100 yards away from them, their home, and their dogs.

Shockingly, the alleged stalker threatened to poison them and cut Benz's throat with a knife.

Julie Benz claims that the person has harassed her on a daily basis dating back to February of this year. The man allegedly sends numerous direct messages to the actress on Instagram -- per day. In the messages, he is threatening her and her family. She also claims she believes he is  "actively looking for her."

The "Dexter" actress also states that she has been under so much stress that she has been unable to sleep, and typically stays inside her own home as she is afraid to leave.

In the filing, Benz claims she is too afraid to make contact with the alleged stalker, even when the court served him with the restraining order.

Not only did this man allegedly stalk and harass Benz and her family, but she also claimed that he had threatened to "kill/poison" the family's dogs.

According to the documents, the man also made threats to bomb LAFC HQ and BMO Stadium, which is where her husband works, as well as a soccer stadium (home to MLS LA teams).

The man apparently has sent over 100 messages to Julie Benz via Instagram, including one that was sent on October 10, 2023, that read, "I'm not trying to make you laugh, I actually want to hurt your family. These are real threats."

He also allegedly moved to Los Angeles to be closer to her, but the actress says she does know this person and believes they are just obsessed fan.

Another direct message read, "Never forget that I would gladly stick a knife in your throat and watch you choke on your own blood."

Julie Benz filed a police report with LAPD's threat management unit.

Julie Benz's "Dexter" character, Rita Bennett, was killed off in the fourth season of the show, which is arguably one of the most shocking deaths in television history.

“I found out [from the producers] three days before [filming],” Benz said on the Inside of You podcast at the time.

“I started having a panic attack, and I called my manager at the time, and I said, ‘Oh my God, I think they’re killing me off,” she explained of being called into the producer's office at the time. At the time, she called her now husband to tell him that she thought her character was about to get killed off "Dexter", to which he said, ‘Maybe they’re giving you a raise,’ which “really broke my heart because you don’t get a raise that way.”

Benz admitted that she “bawled” in the room after learning the news.

The case is ongoing.
