During the November 1 episode of the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, the actress candidly shared the challenges she faced while portraying Aria Montgomery on Freeform's "Pretty Little Liars," which aired from 2010 to 2017.

Hale admitted feeling the pressure to keep up with her co-stars, including Shay Mitchell (Emily Fields), Ashley Benson (Hanna Marin), and Troian Bellisario (Spencer Hastings), unveiling the dynamics behind the scenes of the popular TV series.
Hale told podcast host Alex Cooper, "What the f--- these are angels amongst me. Do I fit into that?"
She continued, "People always wanted to pit us against each other. Were we all best friends? No. Some of us connected some of us did not. Did we have rough patches? Of course. We were in our f---ing 20s, of course."
To Lucy Hale, Connecting With People Can Be 'Tricky'
"Some of the gals really did connect and bond in a big way, and I've always found it tricky to connect with people," Hale explained.
Due to her challenge in connecting with people, the 34-year-old mentioned that she didn't frequently spend time with her co-stars outside the set. Unfortunately, this led to unfounded rumors among fans, falsely suggesting that the other "PLL" actresses didn't like her.
"I was marching to the beat of my own drum," she said.

Despite the on-set dynamics and occasional challenges among the women, Hale emphasized that there was always a significant amount of love between them. However, she candidly admitted feeling overwhelmed by the pressure, which intensified her past struggles with eating disorders.
Hale clarified that she felt "overwhelmed" by the shifts in her career and was uncertain about her role in it. She expressed feeling "disgusted" with herself after watching the series, prompting her to take control of her eating habits. At the time, the "Truth or Dare" star believed it was the best she could do, and having control over her food intake provided her with a sense of improvement.
Lucy Hale Reflects On The Time She Was 'Not In A Good Place'
On Wednesday's podcast, Hale expressed, "To know that young women were watching this show... I just want people to know I was not in a good place."
Reflecting on her emotions during her time on "PLL," Hale disclosed that she has "never" discussed the pressure she felt with any of her castmates. She openly admitted, "I don't know if they felt the same way."
The actress acknowledged that there wasn't overt competition between her and her co-stars. However, she explained, "Realistically, there were magazine covers, and they were only choosing one [girl]."

Despite the challenges she faced in the past, Hale still holds a deep affection for the "PLL" cast.
"I loved them, I still love them to this day," she noted. "I'm so proud that we maintained a level of -- it felt like family. You don't always vibe with certain family members but your family."
In March, Hale reunited with Benson and Bellisario at the Every Day Action Gala, taking to Instagram to share a picture of the "mini reunion."
She captioned the share, "Mini reunion for an amazing cause @every_day_action - a nonprofit organization working to re-allocate the food waste on film sets directly to those living on the streets of Los Angeles and surrounding areas."
