The mystery surrounding Matthew Perry's tragic passing continues and is coming to light slowly, along with the events surrounding a date right before his death.
The late "Friends" actor, who is famous for his love for privacy, was spotted hanging out with an unknown woman shortly before he was pronounced dead on Saturday, October 28, 2023.
Mystery Woman Opens Up About Matthew Perry's Final Moments
Perry reportedly went out with a friend to grab a quick lunch the day before his sudden death was announced. The mystery woman has now come forward to identify herself and give more details about their meeting.
Athena Crosby took to Instagram to confirm she was with the actor before his death. She uploaded a picture of the blog's post about her and Perry's meeting on her story and wrote, "Once again, I never intended to say anything, but since I have been identified, yes that is me with him this past Friday."
She continued that the actor was in "extremely good spirits" and talked to her "enthusiastically about the things that he had coming up in his life." Crosby added that Perry was happy and vibrant as she urged the public to refrain from any speculation surrounding his death and stated that:
"The man[Perry] was on a comeback and truly deserved more time on this earth."
She rounded up her post by noting that the entertainment industry has lost a legend. Crosby did not stop there as she uploaded another picture of Perry and followed up with a very emotional caption which read:
"I wasn’t going to speak about this but what I will say is I had the honor of knowing Matthew personally. I am so devastated from his death but felt it was in poor taste to talk about it publicly as the attention should not be on me but rather on him and his legacy."
She confirmed that the "Almost Heroes" star was an extremely private person, and she respected their friendship, adding, "But indeed, we were friends and I was one of the last people to speak to him and see him before he passed."
Crosby added two more slides in honor of Perry, including a picture of his newly released memoir "Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing" with an autograph addressed to her where he called her "the number 1 girl."
The Creators Of 'Friends' Detailed Their Last Interaction With Perry
Perry's death was indeed unexpected and has everyone revisiting their final moments with him, including the creator of his breakout movie, "Friends." Marta Kauffman and David Crane were devastated at the news, as they recalled that he was in a good place the last time they met, just two weeks ago.
The co-creator who appeared on the "Today Show" held back tears as they spoke about Perry. Kauffman said, "It was great. He was happy and chipper. He didn't seem weighed down by anything. He was in a really good place, which is why this seems so unfair."
Sources close to the star earlier revealed that he was hale and hearty while playing pickleball a few hours before he was found dead. Kauffman shared that her initial reaction was to text him upon hearing the news for the first time, and was then followed by deep sadness. She added that Perry's passing was "hard to grasp" saying:
"You know, one minute he's here and happy, and then poof. And doing good in the world. Really doing good in the world."
As we reported, Crane noted Perry's words, which went along the lines of people being shocked about his passing but not surprised and continued that the actor was not totally wrong and added:
"Given the journey he'd been on, and we were all aware of it, there was always a part that was kind of bracing for something like this. It is still hard to believe because he was such an alive person that it's hard to believe he's not here."
The 66-year-old continued that he believed Perry was aware of the great effect he had on fans and wondered just how much he was able to ruminate on the love and ultimately "find comfort in it."
The cause of Perry's death remains unconfirmed as medical examiners requested more time to conclude their investigations.
