Pop star Britney Spears was married to Jason Alexander for only 55 hours in 2004 when they eloped in Las Vegas. In her new memoir, “The Woman In Me,” the now 41-year-old reflected on how she only got married because she was “drunk” and “bored.”

Her childhood friend, however, sees things a little bit differently. He has insisted that they got married because they were truly "in love" despite what the "Toxic" singer wrote in her memoir.

Britney Spears Says She Married Jason Alexander For 55 Hours Because She Was 'Drunk' and 'Bored'

The ex-husband of Britney Spears was arrested last month, it has emerged. Jason Alexander, 39, was booked on three charges - driving under the influence, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and possession or casual exchange of a controlled substance. Following his January 26 arrest in Nashville, Tennessee, he was held on a $2,500 USD bond and released from jail later that day. He is set to appear in court in April. He and Spears were married for 55 hours after tying the knot in a Las Vegas chapel in 2004. He is pictured here in his January 26 mugshot. 05 Feb 2021 Pictured: Jason Alexander. In her new memoir, “The Woman In Me,” the Princess of Pop explains why she decided to marry her childhood friend, Jason Alexander, in 2004. “As a twentysomething will do after a few drinks, I wound up in bed with one of my old friends, a childhood friend who I’d known forever,” she wrote in her memoir. “The third night we were there together, he and I got s—tfaced.”

“I don’t even remember that night at all, but from what I’ve pieced together, he and I lounged around the hotel room and stayed up late watching movies — Mona Lisa Smile and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre — then had the brilliant idea of going to A Little White Chapel at 3:30 in the morning,” she continued. “When we got there, another couple was getting married, so we had to wait. Yes — we waited in line to get married.”

“People have asked me if I loved him. To be clear: he and I were not in love. I was just honestly very drunk —and probably, in a more general sense at that time in my life, very bored,” she added.

“The next day, my whole family flew out to Vegas. They showed up and stared at me with these eyes of such fury. I looked around. ‘What happened last night?’ I asked. ‘Did I kill someone?’” she wrote. “‘You got married!’ they said, as if that might be somehow worse.”

“They made way too big of a deal out of innocent fun. Everybody has a different perspective on it, but I didn’t take it that seriously. I thought a goof-around Vegas wedding was something people might do as a joke,” she continued in an excerpt transcribed by Us Weekly. “Then my family came and acted like I’d started World War III. I cried the whole rest of the time I was in Las Vegas. ‘I’m guilty!’ I said. ‘I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have gotten married.’”

The day after her memoir was released, Jason told TMZ that he and Britney were absolutely in love at the time they got married and insisted that they hadn’t been drinking at all. However, it contradicts his own 2012 interview with ABC News, where he revealed that they had “party favors” that night. When asked if those “party favors” contained drugs, Jason replied, “Alcohol is a drug. Coffee is a drug. [A] cigarette is a drug. Yeah, we were doing drugs.”

Jason Has Been Going After Britney Pretty Hard On Instagram

In one Instagram post, Jason shared a photo of a rose, her favorite flower. “If roses are red and reality is too, then why is Britney’s book full of little white lies that aren’t true?” he wrote over the video.

“Words are cheap when they’re written for money,” he added in the caption.

In another Instagram post, set to the tune of “Remember This,” he shared a throwback photo of the two together and directly addressed Britney's confession that she only married him because she was "bored."

“When I was with Britney in 2000 at Laura Lynne’s apartment… oh right we were just bored then too,” he wrote along with the hashtags #losers, #liars, and #contracts.

“Yeah Britney and I just hate each other and we don’t remember anything and we weren’t sober here,” he wrote along with several laughing face emojis and the hashtags #whateversells, #sellouts, #greed, and #losers.

Although ghostwriter Sam Lansky has helped many Hollywood stars like Madonna and Adele write their own memoirs, Jason thinks that he might have twisted the truth, particularly in regards to his story.

“Thank you so much, Sam Lansky, for your ‘truthful’ words in your – I mean, ‘Britney’s book’ … I love when everything is a lie. Where is that book money going?” he asked along with the hashtag #liesformoney.

In the caption of this Instagram post, he wrote, “Written by… #goodtry,” seemingly implying that Britney didn’t write her own book.

Jason took to Instagram again to make the claim that Britney didn't write her own book. "Where is all the Money 💴??? Don’t you think the book should be about who, where, and why?? …Not old news about selective people like myself, to try to slander, defame, and distract," he wrote in the caption.

"When I saw that Times magazine article (where Sam Lansky was an editor for) about what 'Britney' supposedly said about our marriage, I knew 💯 percent this book wasn’t going to be about justice for Britney or name the real criminals involved like: the family court and judges, Lou Taylor and her many companies involved in stealing money, Larry Rudolph, Cade Hudson, Michael Kane, Jeff Beacher, George Maloof Jr., Jeffery Ross, Jeff Raymond, Robin Greenhill, Kevin Federline, Jamie Spears, and the rest of Britney’s family and friends," he went on.

He concluded, "The book also doesn’t show how they used her children and many other issues to put her in a conservatorship for 13 years and steal her money. I knew, then, the book was about making money for the brand. What are your thoughts: Is Britney living her best life? Free and in charge…?"

Although he asked a question, comments on his Instagram posts have been disabled.
