Tristan Thompson's guardianship request over his younger brother Amari Thompson has gotten the attention of the Department of Children and Family Services and there is an ongoing investigation.
According to legal documents, obtained exclusively by The Blast, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) in Los Angeles filed a report today regarding the Cleveland Cavaliers player's guardianship case over his 17-year-old brother. However, the details of the report remain sealed because it involves a minor.
Tristan Thompson's Guardianship Case Investigated By DCFS
The Blast broke the news that last month the NBA player filed a petition for guardianship over his brother who has special needs. Amari has been in the care of The Kardashians, particularly his brother's ex, Khloe Kardashian, after their mom Andrea Brooks passed in January 2023.
Back in September, the Canadian basketballer filed a petition for guardianship, requesting the ability to care for and make medical decisions for Amari. "Amari has been in the custody of (Tristan) and he has been providing care, maintenance, and support to Amari," the filing read.
Recall that in July, Khloe posted about Amari turning 17. "Someone is 17 today!!!! Happy birthday sweet sweet Amari!!! We are all so blessed to have been touched by an angel such as you 🩵 you are truly one of Gods greatest treasures," she wrote.
Episodes of the family's hit show, "The Kardashians" show that the Good American founder took in Amari after Tristan's home —located three doors away — had some roof issues.
In the petition, Thompson accused Amari's father of being absent. "Amari’s father, Trevor Thompson, has actively been absent from Amari's life since Andrea Brooks received sole custody of Amari and a support order against Trevor Thompson in July of 2014. Trevor Thompson has never fulfilled any of his support obligations towards Amari and has been actively avoiding them."
The 32-year-old claimed he tried to reach out to Trevor, who has failed to pay any child support since July 2014, but it has been to no avail. "He has done nothing to support or raise the proposed ward since then and has relinquished all rights to have any say in the proposed ward’s care. In addition, Amari has medical diagnoses that render him unable to provide basic care for himself and requires a Guardian to provide that care as well as take him to medical appointments," Tristan claims in the court documents.
As part of his request for guardianship, Tristan sought control of Amari's inheritance from their late mother, Andrea. "Amari is set to receive approximately $103,475 as a result of his mother’s passing. A Guardian is also needed to protect Amari’s inheritance from loss or injury," it states.

Tristan informed the court that it was important for Amari to be given a guardian because he "is a minor and has medical conditions that render him unable to take care of himself or seek gainful employment." He continued, "Appointing a guardian for Amari would be in his best interest because it would ensure that someone would be responsible for providing and fulfilling his basic needs."
Tristan Thompson Owing Child Support To Jordan Craig
The recent update about Tristan's guardianship case comes just a day after he was accused of owing his first baby mama, Jordan Craig, almost $225,000 in child support.
Craig filed an order for income withholding for support, asking the court to garnish the basketballer's salary from the Cavaliers until his debt to her is fully paid. In the filing, the social media personality alleged that Tristan began reneging on his court-ordered $40,000 per month payment in November 2022.
Tristan has been "making either partial payments or missing child support payments altogether," she alleged in the documents, providing a list of the payments made — the highest being $29,000 in August 2023.
"It is my understanding that Tristan has recently signed a contract of employment with a professional sports team, the Cleveland Cavaliers located in Cleveland, Ohio. I seek to garnish some portion of his salary in order to pay the arrears he owes me," Craig requested.

She asked that the court withhold $80,000 from Thompson’s Cavaliers salary until the child support arrears are fully paid. "It is my belief that Tristan signed a "veteran's minimum" contract with the Cavaliers that pays him $2.7 million per year. The $80,000 I request is certainly less than half of his monthly salary," the social media influencer explained.
