A former assistant of pop star Britney Spears is speaking out about her 2007 head-shaving incident amid the release of her memoir, "The Woman In Me," on October 24, 2023.

The now 41-year-old pop star shaved her head in 2007 while photographers snapped photos through the window of a salon. Days later, she was seen attacking a photographer's car with an umbrella. These events ultimately led to her court-ordered conservatorship, which began in February 2008 and lasted until November 2021.

When reflecting on the viral 2007 incident, Britney’s former assistant Sean Phillip described her as a “sad person” in an interview with Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, as per the Daily Mail. “For me personally, I did see a sad person… I was worried for her, I felt protective of her at the time,” Sean said. “It wasn't a job anymore. It was protection in a friendship kind of way.”

Sean told hosts Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway that he had actually tried to get Britney help immediately after the incident occurred by driving her to a mental health facility. However, she refused to go in.

“We were told that she was being sued by her ex-husband, Kevin Federline and that we had to take her to a facility and she agreed to go to a facility and we went,” he recalled. “But she had to check herself in voluntarily and when we got there, she didn't want to do it and nobody could make her do it.”

“He came over and we had a long discussion, a very emotional discussion between herself, her father and a few other people. That was basically the last time I saw her,” Sean explained. “She walked out of the front door with her father, turned around, said, 'I love you' and 'Goodbye'. I felt a certain kind of way, I felt like that was a goodbye.”

“I had no idea what was going to happen after that, no information about the legal things that were going on and what was to come after that. Things got a little worse, a lot worse, after that,” he revealed.

During the interview, Sean revealed that Britney would often approach strangers and recalled an incident with a few surfers on the beach with Malibu. Sean speculated that Britney would approach anyone for a conversation because she “just wanted friends.”

“The problem with Britney having friends is a lot of people wanted to be friends with Britney for the wrong reasons. Those particular people on that day were nice gentlemen who took care of her, they called me and I picked her up,” Sean said. “I would see things on the news and see her with people I didn't know, who I'd never met. It worried me that people would be taking advantage of her.”

When Sean was asked about “Signs” actor Mel Gibson reportedly offering Britney aid at the time, Sean replied, “He wanted to provide her guidance of some sort.”

“I got a lot of interesting phone calls during that time,” he went on to explain. “There were a lot of people who wanted to help, their hearts were in the right place but it was too chaotic…'All I need is five minutes with her.'”

When asked if he was going to read Britney’s new memoir, “The Woman In Me,” which is now officially available in stores, Sean said that he hadn’t made up his mind quite yet. However, he said that he is glad that Britney is finally getting an opportunity to tell her own story.

As for the "Toxic" singer, she does open up on her experience shaving her own head, and why she does it, in her memoir. “I’d been eyeballed so much growing up. I’d been looked up and down and had people telling me what they thought of my body since I was a teenager. Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back," she wrote in an excerpt released by People magazine one week before the book was released.

Britney Spears' memoir "The Woman In Me" was officially released on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
