Meryl Streep was spotted wearing her wedding band on Friday at the 2023 Princesa de Asturias Awards in Spain; however, she and her husband have been separated for six years.
The "Only Murders In The Building" actress and her husband, Don Gummer, just celebrated their 45th anniversary in September despite being separated for quite some time.
The 74-year-old actress and her 76-year-old husband quietly ended the romantic nature of their relationship six years ago, but did so quietly.
Meryl Streep and Don Gummer Went Their Separate Ways SIX Years Ago!
The "Big Little Lies"actress and her husband have been separated for over six years. The two have stated they will always care for one another, but have decided to end the romantic aspect of their relationship and want to live apart.
βDon Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart,β a representative for the actress said in a statement to PEOPLE.
The duo have not been seen publicly together since the 2018 Oscars.
Streep and Gummer share four children together -- Henry, 43, Mamie, 40, Grace, 37, and Louisa, 32.
Meryl Streep tries to keep her family life as private as she can, thanks to Robert Redford.
"Robert Redford taught me that when they were babies: 'They are not your props.' I really admired the way he protected his family," she told Good Housekeeping in 2008. "It's something I consciously emulated."
She did, however, open up a bit when speaking to The Washington Post, admitting that mothering was harder than acting.
"Mothering. Definitely. Acting β that's praise, money, fulfillment. Mothering β they don't even say, 'Thank you.' They don't even clear the table unless you say, 'Excuuuse me.' Real life, there's no comparison to acting. I can't really call acting work, since it's secretly so fun. Even the difficult things; it's satisfying to do the difficult things well."
She added, "Acting isn't like real life. Life is about not being sure: Is this the right school for this kid? All those uncertainties."
Meryl Streep's Son, Henry, Says Being Famous Son Has Its 'Drawbacks'
Henry, the son of famous actress Meryl Streep, spoke out a few years ago admitting that while it is cool to be a famous son, it also has its "drawbacks".
"The fact that my mom is who she is can be overshadowing," he admitted. "Sometimes I worry that my story isn't good enough. Sure, my mom is part of the story and I don't get pissed when people ask me about her, but I wish I had something that could eclipse that as far as compelling storylines."
Henry added, "It's not what I would necessarily choose but it is something I have to accept. There are a certain amount of assumptions that go along with that, which tend to not be fair, like the recognition somehow helps me. But it also hurts because people start to think that I don't work hard and they don't take me seriously."
