As if anticipation for her 49th solo album, Rockstar, is not enough, Dolly Parton has decided to jump on the Wrecking Ball!
Ahead of the album's full release next month, the singer has released her cover of her goddaughter Miley Cyrus' 2013 hit song, "Wrecking Ball." The track is the seventh single from Parton's upcoming project, which marks her venture into the rock 'n' roll genre.
Fans Are Psyched By Dolly Parton & Miley Cyrus' Rock-Infused Cover
Although the full studio album won't be released until November 17, Parton has shared her cover of Cyrus' song as part of the promotional efforts for it. She announced the arrival of the single, which features her superstar goddaughter," in a message posted to social media.
Taking to both X and Instagram, the 77-year-old exclaimed, "'Wrecking Ball (feat. Miley Cyrus)' is out now!" along with a black-and-white image of her and the Pop Chameleon. As it turned out, the collaboration was one that fans didn't think they needed until they got it, and they ensured they praised the singers for their talent in the comments.
On Instagram, one fan gushed, "So beautiful, Dolly! Made me cry. Thank you and Miley; the duet is amazing! " Another declared, "This just ROCKED my world omg. The atmosphere was pretty much the same on X, as one listener effused, "😭😭😭😭😭😭🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Thank you for this. You are both incredibly talented women and I feel lucky to be in the same timeline as you both," and another asserted, "Damn, this version hits different. It's so beautiful. 🥺."
"Wrecking Ball," originally featured on Cyrus's album "Bangerz," was a massive hit in the summer of 2013, reaching number one in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
In Parton's cover of the single, she made a twist on the original version, finishing with the lyric, "I will always love you." The line perfectly references the "Jolene" artist's hit 1974 song of the same name, which was iconically covered by the later singer Whitney Houston.
It's worth noting that months before the musical powerhouses released this collaboration, they had teamed up to perform it during "Miley's New Year's Eve Party." The two co-hosted the event and treated fans to a powerful and emotional duet.
Even though she'd have to power through her emotions while performing "Wrecking Ball," The Blast reported that it was actually Cyrus' idea for her and her godmother to perform a medley featuring "Wrecking Ball" and "I Will Always Love You," two of their most famous songs. Despite it being an emotional moment for both women, they carried on and delivered a memorable performance to ring in 2023.
The 11-Time Grammy Awards Winner Wears Makeup To Bed For THIS Reason
In her recently released book, "Behind The Seams: My Life In Rhinestones," Parton confessed to wearing makeup to bed every night as a longstanding bedtime tradition. She explained that she uses this practice as a form of armor against the ever-present paparazzi.
The "Coat of Many Colors" hitmaker reflected on this unusual routine as a way to be prepared for any emergency. In her written words:
"When I arrived in LA in the 80s, I started sleeping with my makeup on, partly because of the earthquakes. I thought, 'I'm not heading out on the streets without makeup in case there are cameras out there! I'm going to be ready to go!'"
Despite sleeping with makeup on, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee ensures she maintains her skincare routine. To that end, she'd cleanse her skin properly in the morning and then reapply her makeup to accentuate her features, ensuring she looked her best every day.
She emphasized her choice to wear makeup to bed, noting she wanted to look good all day long, even around her husband, Carl Thomas Dean.
"It doesn't matter when you clean your face as long as you clean it once a day. After I wake up, I do all the little rituals, and then I start over again and go out every day and look good all day long. This is also true back home in Tennessee. I don't want to go to bed looking like a hag with Carl," the doting wife generously shared.
