Pop star Britney Spears' memoir "The Woman In Me" is not scheduled for official release until Tuesday, October 24, although excerpts of the book have been distributed throughout the past week, teasing some major revelations about her relationship with Justin Timberlake.
That being said, it looks like there is going to be a lot more information about the book shared online in the coming days, as fans in Mexico already managed to get their hands on a copy!
Britney Spears’ Memoir Released In Mexico One Week Early ‘By Mistake’
On Thursday morning, rumors started popping up on social media that fans in Mexico City had already gotten their hands on a copy of “The Woman In Me.” According to the Daily Mail, one netizen posted a photo of them holding a Spanish version of the book.
“Holaaaa amigos, Robin & I made it to Mexico just in time to get a bootleg copy of Britney’s book. #TheWomanInMe I’ll leak it soon,” they wrote while another user commented, “Rumour has it Britney’s book is on sale already in Mexico!? My sister is in Mexico on vaycay!! I texted her to try and find it.”
A third user wrote, “And unintentionally in Mexico maybe by mistake they are selling Britney's bio at a book fair. The guy has already uploaded the 50 pages of what it is about.” Another user alleged, “The book #TheWomanInMe is OFFICIALLY on sale in Mexico. Several people have uploaded videos and photos to social networks buying the book.”
User Claims That Britney’s Memoir IS Being Sold At A Book Fair In Mexico City
According to one Reddit post, “There is a book fair in Mexico City where the book has been sold since yesterday. Not sure if is going to be removed since the official date is until next week. People who bought it had shared some shocking details inside.”
The user says that the book reveals how Britney lost her virginity at age 14 with an older man, how she used to drink and smoke with her mother at a young age, and how she cheated on Justin Timberlake with Wade Robson after he was unfaith to her. She also expresses a dislike for the Onyx Hotel Tour and mentions her canceled concert in Mexico in 2022.
Although fans will have to wait a week to find out if all of the above information is true, some excerpts online have confirmed that at least some of what was mentioned in the post is accurate. Fans were quick to express their excitement for her memoir, with one fan commenting, “I can’t wait for this book. I feel like a child waiting for Santa.”
Another fan expressed concern for the pop star, writing, “My heart breaks for her. Most of these were suspected but of course, Britney has lived a tragic existence and there's no doubt that even from the cleaned-up image we saw of her family, hometown, and the way society treats girls and women, she'd be put through the wringer and deeply affected already at a young age.”
Britney Spears Recalls Feeling Like A 'Robot' During Her Conservatorship
The "Toxic" singer was subject to a controversial conservatorship from February 2008 to November 2021. In an excerpt from "The Woman In Me" released by People magazine, Britney let her fans know exactly how she felt during that period of her life. “I became a robot. But not just a robot — a sort of child-robot. I had been so infantilized that I was losing pieces of what made me feel like myself,” she wrote in her memoir. “The conservatorship stripped me of my womanhood, made me into a child. I became more of an entity than a person onstage. I had always felt music in my bones and my blood; they stole that from me.”
“This is what’s hard to explain, how quickly I could vacillate between being a little girl and being a teenager and being a woman, because of the way they had robbed me of my freedom. There was no way to behave like an adult, since they wouldn’t treat me like an adult, so I would regress and act like a little girl; but then my adult self would step back in — only my world didn’t allow me to be an adult,” the 41-year-old pop star continued.
“The woman in me was pushed down for a long time," she added. "They wanted me to be wild onstage, the way they told me to be, and to be a robot the rest of the time. I felt like I was being deprived of those good secrets of life — those fundamental supposed sins of indulgence and adventure that make us human. They wanted to take away that specialness and keep everything as rote as possible. It was death to my creativity as an artist.”
Britney Spears' memoir "The Woman In Me" is scheduled for a global release on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
