'My So-Called Life" actress A. J. Langer's husband has pulled the plug on their marriage after almost 20 years of marriage.
According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, Charles Courtenay filed the dissolution in Los Angeles County Courts claiming he wanted to end the couple's marriage. He cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split.
In the filing, Courtenay -- a British lawyer -- says the couple separated on September 30, 2023, after 19 years and 5 months. The former couple shares two kids together.
As for the children, Charlie is asking for the court to give him "joint custody" of the kids. It is clear that spousal support and child support will be a key issue in the divorce.
Normally, after such a long marriage, the couple would split their money and property down the middle. Charles' lawyers claim he "has not yet determined the full extent of his separate property assets and debts, and reserves the right to amend the divorce" at a later date.
A.J. Langer Losing Her Title As A 'Countess' In Scotland?
The beloved 90's TV star opened up about the couple's marriage in an interview saying they met in a Las Vegas bar during a bachelorette party in 2002.
“We caught eyes and smiled. The kilt was a novelty. The smile was all I needed,” she told People.
Adding, “We instantly got on like a house on fire," Charlie noted. Adding, "We went out to a nightclub, I wasn’t allowed in because I was wearing a skirt! So we spent a bit of time walking around the streets and got to know each other really, really well."
The couple married in 2005, and AJ became a countess. That's right, Charlie was some sort of royalty, and they spent time in his ancestral home in Scotland, Powerham Castle.
She remembers being barely prepared, wearing “my brother’s old cut-off jeans and a surfing beanie and a tank top” as they drove up to the 600-year-old castle. “And this is me showing up at a castle. And it’s beautiful, stunningly beautiful," he recalled.
Several reports indicate the family spent time living inside the castle, but based on this divorce filing they must reside in Los Angeles.
She has yet to respond.
