NFL's Derion Kendrick Arrested On Gun Charge, Remains In Custody

NFL player Derion Kendrick was arrested just hours after helping the Los Angeles Rams win against the Arizona Cardinals, The Blast has learned.

According to jail records, the 23-year-old was pulled over early Monday morning for a traffic violation, but during the stop, police officers found a gun and marijuana in his car.

The Blast has learned that Los Angeles Rams starting cornerback Derion Kendrick was arrested following a traffic stop early Monday morning. Kendrick was booked at 2:14 AM PT (5:14 AM ET) on a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon, as of 2:30 PM PT (5:30 AM ET), he remained in custody.

At this time, no further details have been released. Additionally, the Los Angeles Rams have yet to release a statement regarding Derion Kendrick.

Ahead of the 2023 NFL season, Kendrick spoke out on how he is training to be the best that he can be. "Since the season ended, I've been working on slimming down and stuff like that, just because I know the role's coming and bigger roles come all right now is no fit and good getting comfortable out there," Kendrick told theRams.com.

"I'd say the most the best thing for me to do right now is take technique," Kendrick added. "Put that at the top, and then discipline is number two for me. That's that's the main tool for me technique and discipline. And then just follow follow close."

When looking to the 2023 season, Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris spoke out about the Rams starting cornerback.

"What I want to see from Derion Kendrick is exactly what he's given me," Morris said in May of this year. "Urgency, he's given me complete and absolute hustle. He's given me some playmaking ability on the ball and off the ball. He provides great energy and juice just with his enthusiasm and his personality. I'm looking forward to seeing him grow to his highest level, whatever that is. I don't want to set a ceiling for him. I don't want to set a bar for him. I think we don't know yet. I'm looking forward to seeing it."

Derion Kendrick was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the sixth round (212th overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft. This year so far, just six games into the 2023 NFL season, Kendrick has 25 total tackles, but 0 sacks. The Los Angeles Rams are set to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 7. It is unclear if Kendrick will be released from custody before their next game.

In addition to the possibility of not having Kendrick,  the team may also be without two of their top two running backs - Kyren Williams and Ronnie Rivers - who both left the game yesterday with injuries. Should both be forced to miss Sunday's game vs. the Steelers, the Rams will most likely start rookie Zach Evans.
