Actress Jodie Turner-Smith did not want to "settle" for actor Joshua Jackson, according to new reports.
Although the fan-favorite couple was known to gush about their relationship on social media, apparently all was not well behind closed doors, as the "White Noise" actress filed for divorce after approximately four years of marriage.
Jodie Turner-Smith's Marriage To Joshua Jackson 'Didn't Feel Right'
Fans were surprised to see Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson calling it quits on their relationship, but according to one insider, the free-spirited actress did not "feel right" staying in a relationship where she was "not happy."
Earlier this week, one insider told Us Weekly that she did not want to "settle" just because they happen to share a child together.
“She refused to settle for something that didn’t feel right,” the insider divulged, adding that the marriage “wasn’t working for her, so she ripped off the Band-Aid.”
The source said that the 37-year-old actress has since moved into a hotel in Los Angeles while she and Joshua, 45, try to figure out the next steps in their divorce and come up with a cohesive co-parenting plan.
Although "The Acolyte" actress filed for divorce on October 2, she listed September 13 as the date of separation on the court documents - exactly one month ago today. She listed "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split, according to court documents obtained by The Blast.
The couple started dating in 2018 after meeting at Joshua's birthday party and often talked about how they were smitten with each other right away. The couple tied the knot less than a year later, as the pair revealed that they were expecting in December 2019. Their daughter was born in April 2020.
Joshua Jackson Reportedly Feels Blindsided By The Sudden Divorce
Although the two have been separated for over a month now, the "Dawson's Creek" alum reportedly feels blindsided by the divorce, as another source previously told Us Weekly that the 45-year-old did not realize how unhappy that Jodie was in the relationship.
“Joshua was clearly caught off guard by Jodie’s decision to divorce,” one insider divulged. “They had their issues, as many couples do — especially two busy actors who are also juggling a child. Joshua obviously didn’t realize it was this bad, that Jodie was this unhappy.”
“Their friends are baffled and trying to understand how this came about. They became glued to each other after the first night they met, and then parenthood soon followed," they continued. "It was a huge lifestyle change, especially for a free spirit like Jodie. But they seemed so devoted to each other, so everyone is shaking their heads.”
Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson Often Gushed About Their Relationship On Social Media
The couple had never been shy about expressing their feelings for one another on social media. In September 2020, Jackson wrote a gushing tribute to his then-wife in honor of her birthday.
“Happy Birthday my beautiful wife,” he captioned an Instagram post at the time. “Thank you for choosing to share your light with me. Thank you for walking this path of life as my wife. Thank you for bringing our daughter into the world. This last year has been the happiest whirlwind of my life. I can’t wait to see what all the years to come bring our way.”
He also had nothing but positive things to say about her role as a mother. In May 2020, one month after their only child was born, he praised her "passion" and "dedication" as a parent.
“Dear Jodie, On this most special of mothers days I want to thank you for being the light that you are,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “For the passion with which you threw yourself into nurturing and protecting our child when she was in your womb. For the dedication and will you showed bringing her into the world. I have never witnessed a more powerful being than you through those moments. Thank you for the depth of grace you have found since our daughter has arrived.”
The "Fringe" actor was not the only one to praise his significant other on social media. On Valentine's Day, Jodie also took to social media in order to share a sweet tribute to her former flame.
“Our 2nd Valentine’s Day and it’s even more magical than the first! here’s to a lifetime of them," she wrote in February 2020. "Happy Valentine’s Day to the man who sees my soul and holds my heart. I love you, baby daddy.”
