It appears that Britney Spears might still have some hard feelings against her ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake.
The two pop stars dated for four years from 1998 to 2002 after meeting on the set of the “Mickey Mouse Club.” The song “Cry Me A River” was reportedly about Britney’s alleged infidelity, while she is rumored to have written the song “Sometimes” in response.
Justin Timberlake Is Reportedly ‘Not Going To Be Happy’ With Britney Spears After He Reads Her New Memoir!
It appears that the “Bye Bye Bye” singer is not going to be happy about what the Princess of Pop wrote about him in her new memoir. On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, a source told Us Weekly that Justin is “not going to be happy” with what Britney wrote in her upcoming memoir, adding that the pop star “goes after him hard.”
In addition to her love life, she is also reportedly going to open up about her rocky relationships with her parents, Jamie Spears and Lynne Spears. Although Britney is reportedly “excited but nervous” about the release of her memoir, a source told the outlet that “It’s not Britney’s intention to skewer anyone,” adding, “She’s just going to relay the facts from her perspective.”
Even though she might not intend to cast a bad light on her ex, the “Rock Your Body” singer issued a public apology following the release of the 2021 documentary, “Framing Britney Spears,” which insinuated that Justin helped push a negative narrative about Britney by alleging that she cheated on him.
Justin Timberlake Issues Public Apology Following ‘Framing Britney Spears’ Documentary
In February 2021, the “Mirrors” crooner took to Instagram to issue a public apology after he faced widespread backlash for the way that he treated the pop star in 2002 after their public breakup played out in headlines across the world.
“I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns and I want to respond,” he wrote at the time. “I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism.”
“I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed,” he continued. “I also feel compelled to respond, in part, because everyone involved deserves better and most importantly, because this is a larger conversation that I wholeheartedly want to be part of and grow from.”
'I can do better and I will do better'
“The industry is flawed. It sets men, especially white men, up for success. It’s designed this way,” he went on. “As a man in a privileged position I have to be vocal about this. Because of my ignorance, I didn’t recognize it for all that it was while it was happening in my own life but I do not want to ever benefit from others being pulled down again.”
“I have not been perfect in navigating all of this throughout my career. I know this apology is a first step and doesn’t absolve the past. I want to take accountability for my own missteps in all of this as well as be part of a world that uplifts and supports,” he concluded. “I care deeply about the well-being of the people I love and have loved. I can do better and I will do better.”
At the time, a source told Us Weekly that Britney “does not hold a grudge” against her ex, adding, “She feels that they were young and in love and both did stupid things when they were together. She was heartbroken when they separated, but it’s not something she dwells on now.”
Sam Asghari Will Only Be Mentioned Briefly In 'The Woman In Me'
While Justin Timberlake went on to marry actress Jessica Biel in 2012, Britney went on to date Iranian actor Sam Asghari after he starred in her “Slumber Party” music video in 2016. He proposed in September 2021, two months before her 13-year conservatorship was struck down by a judge in November 2021. The two tied the knot in June 2022.
On August 16, Sam Asghari filed for divorce after approximately fourteen months of marriage due to Britney’s alleged infidelity. A source told Us Weekly that the “Special Ops: Lioness” actor is “mentioned” in the memoir, but that it will be “heavily watered down” as the two continue to finalize the details of their divorce.
Britney's highly anticipated memoir "The Woman In Me" is scheduled for release on October 24, 2023.
