It seems Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have finally reached an agreement in their contentious child custody case.
Their two daughters have been staying in New York City while the former couple’s divorce drama has unfolded in the media.
Is Joe Jonas Letting Sophie Turner Take Their Two Daughters Back To England?
Part of the couple’s feud stemmed from the fact that the “Game of Thrones” actress wanted to take the former couple’s two daughters back to England with her to be raised by her and her family. The “Sucker” singer, however, wanted the two girls to stay in the United States.
Over the past week, the former couple has been hashing out a custody sharing agreement in order to determine who will get custody of the children for what duration of time. On Tuesday morning, the Daily Mail published court documents that reveal that the former couple has “amicably” resolved their child custody agreement.
They will each get two weeks with their daughters, Willa, who is 3, and Delphine, who is 1, until January 2024. Sophie will also be allowed to bring the girls to England with her. With the holidays quickly approaching, Sophie will also be allowed to spend Christmas with her children in the U.K. It is unclear if Joe will travel to England to celebrate the holidays with his girls during that time.
The girls will also be allowed to travel anywhere in the U.S. and the U.K. as their parents decide, resolving a prior argument in which Sophie claimed that Joe was withholding the girls’ passports. This decision came after four days of reportedly “intense” mediation in New York, where the two have been photographed.
Sophie’s lawyer, Stephen Cullen, called the mediation “ongoing and productive” and noted that the custody sharing is “in anticipation of an amicable resolution of all issues” as the two hash out their divorce.
Joe Jonas Will Spend Halloween and Thanksgiving With His Daughters
Joe Jonas filed for divorce on September 1 in Miami. At the time, sources said that Sophie had been partying too much, which left Joe and his family to take care of his two girls, even while he was on tour. However, Sophie shot back at the allegations, claiming that the 34-year-old singer was purposely withholding the children’s passports and cited international child abduction law.
The issue launched legal proceedings in Miami, New York, and the U.K., although a previous interim consent order declared that the two girls had to stay in New York until a custody agreement could be reached. According to the second interim consent order, Sophie will have both of the girls from October 9 through October 21.
During this time, Sophie will be able to take the girls to U.K. or anywhere else within the U.S. and the U.K. However, both girls must be back in New York on October 21, where they will be “transferred” over to the custody of their father at a time and location that it “suitable” to both parents, as per the court filing.
It seems that the two girls will be spending Halloween with his father, as the court filing states that Joe will have both children from October 21 through November 2. At that time, the former couple’s nanny will be granted the authority to return the girls to New York so that Sophie can see her children for the next few weeks.
Sophie Turner Will Be Able To Bring The Girls To England For Christmas
Joe Jonas will be able to travel anywhere in the U.S. with his children, meaning that the girls will continue to be able to follow him and his family on tour. The Jonas Brothers are scheduled to perform in Austin, Texas, San Diego, California, and Anaheim, California, during the time that Joe has custody.
The group is scheduled to play in Fresno, California, on November 2, which is why the nanny likely has been granted the ability to take the children back to New York on that date. Sophie will have the children from November 2 through November 22. Joe will then get to see the girls for Thanksgiving and have custody of them until December 16.
Sophie will be able to take the girls to England from December 16 through January 7 and celebrate Christmas with her family, but she will have to bring them back to New York at that time. A trial to permanently resolve their custody agreement has been scheduled at the start of the new year on January 2.
