Actress Rachel Bilson expressed concern over Whoopi Goldberg's comments about her recent podcast episode.
On her show, Bilson made a controversial claim that men in their 40s who have "only slept with four women" are "weird."
In response, Goldberg slammed the actress on "The View," saying that it is not her "business" to know how many people a potential partner has slept with.
Rachel Bilson Responds To Whoopi Goldberg
Rachel Bilson has responded to Goldberg's comments on "The View," where she slammed "The O.C." actress for her statement about men in their 40s with few sexual partners.
She explained to Entertainment Weekly that she didn't want to reply Goldberg since she hadn't seen the talk show episode yet. "I think it's important to hear a whole conversation before casting your own judgment or criticism on something," Bilson noted.
However, she added that she didn't intend to sound "weird." She explained that the podcast episode was a simple conversation between friends and shouldn't be taken seriously.
Bilson had said on her show that she wouldn't date a man with less than four past sexual partners. She explained that his experience would determine whether he was ready for her.
The statement got the attention of Goldberg, who noted that it wasn't "her business" to talk about. She explained that men are now being told to have fewer partners after being "traditionally" taught that having several is okay.
According to Goldberg, women have always asked men to be less promiscuous, so hearing Bilson shame men with few sexual partners irked her.
Her co-hosts chimed in as well on the matter. Joy Behar especially joked that she only cared about how much the potential partners could satisfy her.
She Was Concerned About Whoopi Goldberg's Opinion
Upon hearing of Goldberg's response to her statement, Bilson noted that she was concerned. The actress, a big fan of Goldberg, was worried that the 67-year-old Hollywood veteran thought negatively of her podcast. Bilson was surprised that it was a significant topic for the "Sister Act" star's show.
Bilson recounted, "I've been a fan of Whoopi's for a very long time, so when I saw the tagline that she criticized something I said, I, of course was concerned... It was a flippant comment that I was just talking with friends."
She also recalled that she "retracted it," and the statement shouldn't determine the kind of person she is.
Rachel Bilson Walks Back Her CommentÂ
Bilson explained that the statement should be taken with a grain of salt as she didn't mean it to the extent that the public thought. She just wanted to have a fun podcast episode and didn't realize that people like Goldberg would have something to say about it.
Bilson explained that she doesn't feel that way in real life, and it honestly doesn't matter how many sexual encounters a potential romantic partner has had.
The 42-year-old noted that she was used to talking freely on her podcast and made a conscious effort not to edit out statements for originality.
She said, "We make [Broad Ideas] a very safe open place to discuss anything, and we were just talking. I have the power to edit our podcast, and I chose to keep the conversation as a whole in."
Rachel Bilson's Relationships
Regarding her romantic status, Bilson revealed in the middle of last year that she was not single, although she did not disclose the individual's identity.
However, many have speculated that her beau is musician Zac La Roc after they were spotted packing on the PDA during a beach outing in May 2022.
She has dated Adam Brody, whom she starred alongside in "The O.C.," Bill Hader, and her "Jumper" co-star Hayden Christensen.
With Christensen, she welcomed a daughter, Briar Rose, 8. After their breakup, the duo continued co-parenting, with Bilson telling People magazine in June 2018 that the arrangement has been "tricky."
She said, "Most important for me is that Briar is OK, secure, and stable. No matter what I'm dealing with or how much it hurts or how much anger there is, it's just about her."
