Robert Pattinson Worries About Being 'Unemployed and Desperate' With Acting Career

Robert Pattinson has revealed he's just as worried about his career and life as the rest of us. The actor expressed his constant worries about being "unemployed and desperate."

Pattinson also shared that he has a "deep, deep fear of humiliation," which can occur for any reason. He is set to star in the sequel of the superhero flick, "Batman," which is slated for a 2025 release. 

During a newly released interview between comedian Jordan Firstman and actor Robert Pattinson for Interview Magazine, the actor opened up about his fears and worries. Pattinson revealed that he often thinks of his place in society and the future of his career.

He said, "I'm constantly thinking that you're just going to spend most of your life unemployed and desperate and feeling like you're a total failure. I think that's just what life is." In response, Firstman said, "If Robert Pattinson is saying that, there is no hope for anyone ever to be satisfied."

Pattinson then explained further about what caused his fear. The "Batman" star blamed it on the unstable nature of his career as a working actor and its poor job security. He said, "I don't know, I feel like you're specifically at a maximum most of the time you're doing a job and employed for three months. That's the most stressful thing in the world."

During his conversation with Firstman, Pattinson spoke about another of his worries, a "deep, deep fear of humiliation." This is likely why the "Twilight: Breaking Dawn" actor is picky about the film roles he takes on and driven to work only on projects he's passionate about.

He said, "I have a deep, deep fear of humiliation. And also, you know it's down to you. You can say it's a shitty script, or the director's a dick, or blah, blah, blah, but at the end of the day, no one will care about the reasons. You're the one who everyone's going to say is lame. And most people will say you're lame even when you tried your best."

The actor talked about how hard it is to choose what project to take on and when to take a break from acting. He said, "It's always difficult to know how not to saturate everything or how long to wait. And then sometimes, if you wait too long and then try to make a big splash, if it doesn't work, you're in a perilous place afterward."

Pattinson has had some experience with public humiliation, such as when he joked about not working out for his Batman role. The actor made the joke during a GQ interview in 2020, and it quickly went viral on social media. Many DC and Batman fans thought Pattinson wasn't taking the iconic role as seriously as his predecessors.

In a subsequent chat with Movie Maker, Pattinson reflected on the viral remark and the criticism online. He said, "That came back to haunt me. I always think it's embarrassing to talk about how you're working out; I think it's like an English thing."

Pattinson spoke further about the unrealistic body standards for actors. He added, "Unless you are in the most unbelievable shape, where people are just genuinely curious, going, 'How have you achieved, like, physical perfection?' or whatever."

Pattinson will star as Batman again in the film's sequel, which is yet to begin production. The first film was successful at the theatres and amongst fans, with high praise for Pattinson's performance. Director Matt Reeves confirmed the second installment, and a release date is slated for 2025.

Along with the "Batman" sequel, DC revealed another spinoff based on the character of Penguin, played by Colin Farrell. The show is also slated for release later in 2024. The release dates of both Batman projects will likely be affected by the ongoing SAG strike.
