Kevin Costner Will 'Always Love' His Ex-Wife Despite Nasty Divorce

Kevin Costner and his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner are far from closing all chapters of their relationship, despite their nasty divorce.  

According to sources close to the situation, the ex-couple are still on talking terms and have no ill feelings towards each other. They have decided to remain friends for the sake of their children, Cayden, Hayes, and Grace.

Kevin Costner and his ex-wife Baumgartner are reportedly "now on speaking terms" despite their split. The couple finalized their divorce on September 19, after four months of intense legal battles. However, a source told US Weekly that the duo have no bad blood between each other.

They explained that things are much better than they were when the divorce was initially filed. Costner personally wants to do everything possible to maintain a healthy relationship "for the kids' sake."

Despite the couple's decision to remain cordial, there's no plan to rekindle their romance. The insider said, "There won't be a reconciliation. They're moving on."

The "Bodyguard" star is also excited that the hard part is over, and they can finally be on good terms. He doesn't "want to fight anymore" with Baumgartner because she remains the "mother to his children."

The source noted that the actor would make sure his kids remained "in their accustomed standard of living for life," adding that he "doesn’t want them to want for anything."

They noted that Costner will "always love” his ex-wife and it was “important to him that she and the kids [were] taken care of" in spite of their contentious divorce.

While they've finalized the divorce and reached an agreement on the child support issue, the couple is set to return to court in November to finish the process. Despite the ruling, Costner still believes that Baumgartner would want to fight for the court to favor her.

A source told US: "Kevin knows Christine is far from done." They added, "He's relieved that step one has [gone his way] … but Christine is sure as hell not giving up on the overall war." 

During the back-and-forth on what the ideal child support payment would be, Costner revealed that he couldn't afford his former wife's initial request.

He explained that he expected to earn much "less in 2023" than usual since he was leaving "Yellowstone." Costner added that he could "run out of money" given his situation. However, Baumgartner, on her end, claimed that the price was necessary to maintain a good standard of living for their kids.

Costner opened up in an interview with Access Hollywood about how much the process affected his life. He revealed how strange it was to be on opposing sides with someone he swore to love forever.

"This is a horrible place to be, but this is where we're at," Costner said. "It feels so bad and we're talking about somebody I love on the other side, I just can't."

The handbag designer's lawyer argued in court that their children had luxury ingrained "in their DNA" hence her hefty child support request.

After a contentious battle, a court ruled in favor of Costner, as the actor was told to pay $63,209, far from the $248,000 Baumgartner initially requested for. However, he still believes that it's his responsibility to take care of the kids and provide as much as they need.

Costner and Baumgartner ended their 19-year-long marriage after the handbag designer filed for a divorce from the 68-year-old. At the time, Costner revealed how upset he was that his wife decided to leave him. He released a statement through his representative, announcing the divorce and saying how sad he was about it.

Costner also asked fans to respect their privacy and give him space to deal with the news. The statement read, "It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Reuben's friend Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action. We ask that his, Christine's, and their children's privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time."

Four months after the initial filing, the divorce process was finalized on September 19, with the estranged couple reaching a settlement that enforced their prenup. However, they went through legal hurdles related to child and spousal support.
