Grammy award-winning artist Kelly Clarkson, who finalized her divorce in 2022 after a contentious legal battle, opened up on Instagram Live about embracing the single life. She expressed contentment and revealed she's not actively seeking a new relationship.
Reflecting on her past marriage and its end, she acknowledged the challenges of starting over. Despite humorous comments about remaining "single forever," she has fully embraced her life and appreciates regaining a part of herself lost in her previous relationship.
Kelly Clarkson Embraces Being Single
Per the Daily Mail, in a recent Instagram Live, Kelly Clarkson opened up about her post-divorce life and reluctance to rush into a new relationship.
The Grammy-winning artist, who finalized her divorce from talent manager Brandon Blackstock in 2022 after a lengthy legal battle, shared her feelings with her 7.1 million followers that she's content being single, citing her busy household with "two kids, two dogs, three rabbits, and a hamster."
The "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" hitmaker also mentioned her hectic professional life with multiple jobs.
Reflecting on her past marriage, she acknowledged the challenge of starting over after assuming she'd spend her life with someone, stating, "You think you're going to spend the rest of your life with somebody, and you don't. That's hard to start over."
Kelly Clarkson Says She Knew Her Marriage Was Over
In June, Clarkson spoke candidly about the end of her marriage to Blackstock. She revealed that she felt their marriage was ending while promoting her album "Chemistry."
Before their eventual split, the couple who share two children, Remington and River Rose, had tried couples counseling to salvage their relationship. During an appearance on "The Zane Lowe Show," the singer expressed her desire to save the marriage, admitting, "I desperately want to make this happen, But I think I knew in my heart it just wasn't going to."
She also discussed her emotional struggles during the "sh***y" grieving process but credited therapy for helping her navigate it. "It's beneficial to have a trained professional that knows how to navigate you through rough seas kind of," she said.
Kelly Clarkson On Her Family's Dynamic Post-Divorce
Post-divorce, Clarkson has been open about the changes in her family dynamic. In a March episode of "IRL" with Angie Martinez, she discussed her children's sadness regarding their parents living separately.
"I sit there, and I'm like, 'I get it. I'm from a divorced family as well. I get it. That sucks, you know? But we're going to work it out. And you are so loved by both of us,'" she shared.
She and her ex-husband, Blackstock, met in May 2006 during an Academy of Country Music Awards rehearsal. They got engaged in December 2012 and married in October 2013. In 2020, the "Breakaway" singer filed for divorce from the music manager, and the divorce was officially finalized in 2022.
After her divorce, Clarkson humorously remarked on her talk show, "The Kelly Clarkson Show," that she might remain "single forever," partly due to her inability to spot "red flags" in her partners.
Nevertheless, she has fully embraced her single life, expressing to E! News in June that she feels fantastic. She also acknowledged the positive aspect of regaining a part of herself that she thought she had lost in her previous relationship, saying, "I've lost a bit of me, like in my previous relationship, and I love having her back."
Her Kids Looked At Her Like A 'Superhero' During Her Las Vegas Residency
Kelly Clarkson turned her Las Vegas residency into a family affair. She surprised the audience by bringing her children onstage to sing and dance with her in two consecutive shows.
This experience profoundly impacted her kids, and Clarkson shared her delight on the "Today Show," describing how her children looked at her with sheer admiration, as if she were a superhero, during their time on stage together.
"It was the most magical thing to be on stage [with them] — I didn't know it was going to happen," she recalled. "But how my kids were looking at me? They had so much fun on stage, first of all. But then how they were looking at me was like I was Thor! I was like, 'Oh my God, they're never going to look at me like this again."
She added, "I felt like I was a superhero to them. It was the most magical feeling as a parent that they look at you that way. That awe? It was really cool."
