Tory Lanez's prison sentence might be tricky for his wellbeing!
On Tuesday September 19, the rapper was eventually transferred to a state prison to serve his 10-year sentence for shooting colleague Megan Thee Stallion in July 202o.
However, information about the state prison shows that there might more trouble than usual!
Tory Lanez's State Prison Witnessed Several Murders In 2023
Lanez is serving his 120-month sentence at North Kern State Prison in Delano, California, which has had a bad rep in the news lately. Per reports, the state correctional facility, which is located approximately 145 miles from Los Angeles, has been the site of multiple murders and intense violence among inmates.
Super dangerous criminals are often sent there for example convicted serial killer Ramon Escobar. Back in February, Escobar allegedly killed his cellmate, 53-year-old Juan Villanueva, resulting in him being charged with first-degree murder.
Villanueva was sent to prison for sexually assaulting a child. A similar case of violence in the prison was the death of 25-year-old Ricardo Saldivar, whose passing is now being investigated as a homicide by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
When inmates aren't being killed, there are multiple reported cases of violence breaking out between the prisoners and their guards. Just this month, it was reported that a convicted sex offender inmate was found guilty in connection to a 2020 incident where he was accused of attacking a correctional officers.
The prisoner, Joseph Smith, struck and punched two officers who were searching him on suspicion of possessing drugs. He is now facing a potential sentencing of 50 years to life.
None of these things look good for Lanez, who is just there to serve 10 years, and hasn't proven to be quite the big shot like the mentioned criminals. However, the "Say It" singer has plenty job opportunities to keep him busy and away from the bad guys.
For example, the prison offers different jobs with wages ranging from $.08 an hour for unskilled labor, and up to $.30 an hour for skilled labor.
Lanez Wears A Scowl In His Released Mugshot
Earlier when the Canadian native was transferred and processed at the North Kern State Prison, his mugshot was released. In the now viral photo, Lanez looked unhappy and unkempt while keeping a straight face for the prison cameras.
His hair was not groomed with white substances everywhere, but his nose piercing still remained. Before the deed was done, the rapper, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was denied bond, dashing any hopes of an early exit from prison.
Days before his processing, Lanez sought to live with his wife and son while awaiting the appeal’s outcome following his conviction in the shooting case. However, the judge was not moved by his appeal, citing his violent felony conviction, past court order violations, and non-U.S. citizenship as reasons for his ineligibility.
Recall that in 2022, Lanez was convicted of three charges — assault with a semiautomatic weapon, negligent firearm discharge, and possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm. It wasn't until July 2023 that he was sentenced to 10 years despite prosecutors arguing for 13 years because he retraumatized his victim, Megan, with aggressive social media posts.
The 'Hurts Me' Rapper Always Maintained Innocence
Despite the jury's verdict, his conviction, and eventual sentence, Lanez has maintained that he didn't shoot the "Bongos" hitmaker in the foot during that fateful day.
After his sentence announcement, the Canadian rapper took to social media to remind his fans of his innocence, while waging war against the unfair judicial system.
"I have never let a hard time intimidate me. I will never never let no jail time eliminate me. Regardless of how they try to spin my words, I have always maintained my innocence, and I always will," Lanez declared. "This week in court, I took responsibility for all verbal and intimate moments that I shared with the parties involved… that’s it."
He continued, "In no way, shape or form was I apologizing for the charges I’m being wrongfully convicted of. I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do."
Assuring his beloved fan base that this was not enough to conquer his spirit, he penned, "Tough times don’t last, tough people do," while promising to not give up fighting until he emerges victorious.
