Rapper Tory Lanez's mugshot has been released after he was transferred to a state prison following his conviction for shooting fellow hip-hop artist Megan Thee Stallion.
Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan and was handed a 10-year jail sentence by a judge. His hopes of getting out of prison were recently squashed after a judge rejected his appeal, citing his past court order violations, violent felony conviction, and non-US citizenship as reasons.
Rapper Tory Lanez's New Mugshot Revealed Following Transfer To State Prison
Tory Lanez was recently transferred to state prison and had to pose for a new mugshot. The rapper, who looked very unhappy in the photo, will have to settle into life in his new prison.
He reportedly checked in on Tuesday at the North Kern State Prison in Delano, California, located approximately 145 miles from Los Angeles.
As previously reported by The Blast, Lanez was hit with a 10-year jail sentence for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the foot.
Prior to his sentencing, prosecutors had asked the judge to give the rapper 13 years behind bars. In court, he was accused of re-traumatizing Megan with several social media posts concerning the case and inciting anger from people online towards her by doing it.
On the other hand, the rapper's lawyers hoped he would get a slap on the wrist via probation and then be released from prison to enter a substance abuse program. His lawyers argued that the evidence against him was "questionable at best."
Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, recently suffered another loss in court after a judge denied his bond request. He had hoped to be allowed to live with his wife and son while awaiting the outcome of his appeal.
According to a report, the judge cited Lanez's past court order violations, his violent felony conviction, and non-U.S. citizenship as the reasons for the rejection of his appeal. The rapper's legal status in the U.S. and his valid work visa were insufficient to help his case.
Tory Lanez Made A Plea For Leniency
Prior to his sentencing, Lanez made a plea for leniency as he addressed the court, asking for a verdict that'll allow him to "prove" himself.
"I'm standing in front of you as a father to a six-year-old who needs me every step of the way," Lanez said to Judge David Herriford at the time. "There's been this misconception about me being this monster, not having remorse, that's just not true."
He continued, "That night, everyone was drunk, I said things I shouldn't have said. The victim was my friend; I still care about her. We both lost mothers; we'd sit there and drink until we felt numb. Everything I did wrong that night I take responsibility for."
Lanez's lawyer, Jose Baez, slammed the 10-year prison sentence, calling it "incredibly harsh" and "extreme." He claimed that his client was being punished for his celebrity status.
Tory Lanez Asserted His Innocence After His Sentencing
After Lanez got slammed with a 10-year sentence, he took to Instagram to assert his innocence, stating that he would not apologize for the shooting incident.
In a lengthy post, the "The Color Violet" rapper stated that he was not accountable for the shooting and conveyed his frustration over being portrayed as the villain in the narrative.
"I have never let a hard time intimidate me. I will never never let no jail time eliminate me. Regardless of how they try to spin my words, I have always maintained my innocence, and I always will," Lanez wrote. "This week in court, I took responsibility for all verbal and intimate moments that I shared with the parties involved… that's it."
"In no way, shape or form was I apologizing for the charges I'm being wrongfully convicted of. I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do," he added.
Lanez noted that he "faced adversity [his] whole life" and that this conviction is "nothing but another moment where my back is against the wall, and I refuse to stop fighting till I come out victorious."
"Tough times don't last, tough people do," he added while thanking his family and friends for their "continued support."
