Thomas Markle Wants To Meet His Grandchildren
Thomas, 79, opened up about his desire to meet his grandchildren during an interview with Good Morning Britain. He revealed that he hadn't met his daughter in half a decade and was heartbroken that Meghan kept their son, Archie, from him.
"I'm heartbroken. I am very upset. This is a cruel thing to do to a grandparent - to deny the right to see a grandchild," Thomas said, per Daily Mail.
The father of three also threatened to start a legal battle with the royal couple if they didn't agree to his request.
He revealed, "In California, I can actually sue to see them, but I don't want to do that." Thomas expressed confusion about why Meghan was keeping away from him. "I've done nothing wrong," he explained, "There's nothing that points to say I'm a bad guy."
Thomas Markle Compares Himself To King Charles
Meghan's father apologized for anything he might have done to upset her in the past. He revealed he was ready to do anything to mend their relationship and deserved to be forgiven.
"People go to prison for five years and they're forgiven - I didn't do anything. So forgive me, I guess."
Thomas then compared himself to King Charles, noting that they were being treated the same way. He explained that they were deprived of contact with their grandchildren for no reason.
Defending the King, he explained, "King Charles has done nothing wrong too and he is denied the kids as well as I am," he said.
Thomas Markle Believes His Daughter Has Changed
Amid complaints that Meghan was avoiding him, Thomas also noted that the Duchess of Sussex had changed. He explained that she became a different person after getting married and expressed shock at the change. "Meghan lived with me from sixth grade to high school and I never saw anything like that. I never saw the kind of woman she turned into. I am shocked," he said.
Thomas added, "I'm a really loving father and she knows that, and there's no excuse for treating me this way - no excuse to treat grandparents that way." Nonetheless, he revealed he was ready to fix things whenever she was and would always have fatherly love for her.
"I am always here for her, I still love her, I'll love her forever. That will never change," he said, adding, "but I want her to reach out to me and let me see my grandkids and let me have a little peace."
Meghan Markle Told Her Dad To Stop Exploiting Her Marriage
The "Suits" actress previously released a statement begging her father to stop exploiting her relationship with the Royal family. This came after Thomas bailed on attending her wedding to Harry after it was revealed he had faked photos of himself preparing for the nuptials to the paparazzi. Following this, Meghan, in a letter accused her father of using her marriage to Prince Harry to gain money and fame.
She also begged Thomas to consider the "pain" he was causing her. It read, per People magazine, "...Please stop exploiting my relationship with my husband … I realize you are so far down this rabbit hole that you feel (or may feel) there's no way out, but if you take a moment to pause, I think you'll see that being able to live with a clear conscience is more valuable than any payment in the world."
While Meghan blamed her father's behavior for the rift between them, the late Queen held Harry responsible for a part of it. Per royal commentator Katie Nicholl, Queen Elizabeth II noted that Harry should've visited his father-in-law and made him feel welcomed by the Royal family. She also believed that it would've gone a long way in preventing the rift between the father and daughter.
